A bunch of IIT Roorkee students have came up with a fool-proof solution in the form of a social enterprise concerning urban slums– turning one problem into a solution for the other. The Team Poshak (a hindi word meaning one who gives) plans to reduce the pangs of sanitation and good food problems in slums in one go.

What they suggest is they will provide several toilet booths across the slum for free, collect the waste matter, feed it into a biogas plant, sell the gas and manure and put the revnues generate in operating a subsidized food center which will be instrumental in providing three meals a day to the slum dwellers.

Pretty neat, huh? Currently, the team is looking for seed capital via a competition called Hult Prize. They are already in Top ten. To further their cause they need your support. You can help them by voting on following link.

IIT-KGP students rally!!!

The students of IIT-Kharagpur organised a signature campaign to create an awareness among the student community about the human right violations in Sri Lanka against the ethnic Tamil community.

They highlighted the following points during their awareness campaign.

*To conduct an international independent investigation on the human rights violations and genocide killings.

*To give equal rights and political power to the linguistic minorities living in Sri Lanka.

*Requesting India to register a strong protest and concerted action against the Sri Lankan government over this issue.

The students also successfully organised a peaceful rally last week. More than 300 students belonging to different states participated, registering their solidarity with the issue.
