This organization was formed by a group of persons having inspired by the philosophy of Gandhi, Vinoba and Jai Prakash. They first studied the Socio-Economic condition of the area and which followed the regular discussion with the local residence. The problems were so acute and intense that they could not be dealt in short period with isolated and single handle efforts. The need to form an organiz
ation was felt by all the members who grouped together, because the area had a long history of neglect and exploitation. The organization came into existence in the year 1983 and was registered under Society Registration Act of 1860 under Article XXI. Bhartiya Jan Utthan Parishad with an effort to reach to the dark areas of the region through integrated community development program identified the district of Nalanda of Bihar state as one of the most backward districts. Efforts have been made to aware people and to develop sustainable system in the villages. BJUP has been formed with the aim to work with the people, so as to make the community involve in overcoming the problems existing in the society. Since then the organization has been working among SC, ST, women, child & child labour, older people and other weaker sections of the societies who have been denied of their developmental rights and are away from the mainstream of developments. The organization believes in development through social action, it believes in people central development based on participatory approach with special emphasis on health and economic empowerment. The organization views beneficiaries not merely as recipient of charity but as equal partners of developmental initiatives who have to contribute according to their status.
