As of October 15, 2025, Ravi Sitaram Naik, a former Chief Minister of Goa and a sitting member of the Goa Legislative Assembly, has passed away at the age of 79 due to a cardiac-related problem. Recent news confirms his death and mourns the loss of the senior politician
🕳️🕳️🕳️Naik had a long political career that saw him shift between parties and hold various cabinet positions:
Early career: He began his political journey with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP).
Chief Minister (1st term): After defecting to the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1991, he served as Chief Minister of Goa from January 1991 to May 1993.
Chief Minister (2nd term): He held the Chief Minister's post again for a brief six-day period in April 1994.
Deputy Chief Minister: He held the Deputy Chief Minister position in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government from 2000 to 2002.
Return to Congress: He later rejoined the INC.
Return to BJP: In December 2021, Naik quit the Congress and once again joined the BJP. He went on to win the Ponda seat as a BJP candidate in the 2022 state election.
Agriculture Minister: Following the 2022 election, he became the Minister for Agriculture, Handicrafts, and Civil Supplies in the BJP-led government.🧿
