In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in land compensation for the Ladaโ€“Sarli section of the Arunachal Frontier Highway, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Arunachal Pradesh has arrested two private brokers accused of facilitating the collection of bribes totalling โ‚น19.51 crore.

The arrests of Rajo Gyadi (46) and Yayo Yangfo (36), both residents of East Kameng district, were made in connection with Case No. 13/2025, as per an official press release issued by the ACB on January 8, 2026.

Rajo Gyadi, son of Late Tache Gyadi and a resident of Tassomora village under Seppa Police Station, is alleged to have acted in connivance with Takam Kechak, the then District Land Revenue and Settlement Officer (DLRSO) of Seppa, along with another absconding accused. The syndicate reportedly fraudulently enhanced compensation awards for select beneficiaries, collecting โ‚น19.51 crore in bribes. Of this, โ‚น1.96 crore was allegedly deposited into Gyadi's personal bank accounts via post-dated cheques.

Yayo Yangfo, son of the Late Takar Yangfo and a resident of Type II Colony in Seppa, is accused of routing โ‚น1.77 crore in bribe money through post-dated cheques from beneficiaries' accounts, which forms part of the total amount under scrutiny.

The case gained momentum following the earlier arrest of Khya Byagang, which uncovered additional evidence leading to these latest detentions. The ACB has stated that the probe is ongoing, with more arrests anticipated as the investigation deepens.

This scandal is part of broader allegations of irregularities in land compensation for the strategic Ladaโ€“Sarli stretch of the Frontier Highway, a key infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity along the India-China border.

APCโ€“APUWJ delegation meets CM Khandu, presses for journalistsโ€™ pension and press club recognition

Itanagar, Jan 07: A delegation of the Arunachal Press Club (APC) and the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) met Chief Minister Pema Khandu and discussed key issues concerning journalist welfare and the institutional strengthening of the media in the state.
The delegation, led by APC President Amar Sangno, met the chief minister at his office here on Wednesday. It included representatives from various district press clubs.

The delegation submitted a three-point memorandum to the chief minister and urged the state government to expedite the implementation of the Arunachal Pradesh Working Journalistsโ€™ Pension Scheme (APWJPS)-2020. Although it had received Cabinet approval, the scheme has remained stalled due to objections raised at the bureaucratic level.

APC President Amar Sangno said that the APWJPS-2020, announced in the 2019โ€“20 state budget and discussed extensively with the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), has suffered from a prolonged delay in implementation, raising concern among journalists.

The memorandum also sought formal recognition of five APC-affiliated district press clubs - Ziro, Aalo, Raga, Pasighat and Seppa - to strengthen grassroots journalism and streamline official communication at the district level.

To ensure effective dissemination of information at the district level, the delegation also appealed to the state government to issue official directions to district administrations so that all press conferences, media interactions, workshops and related activities are coordinated through the respective DPCs.

While a similar mechanism is being followed at the state level through APC and APUWJ, pursuant to a government order issued in October 2024, the organisations noted that the system is yet to be implemented uniformly across districts.

Additionally, the organisations requested the allotment of land or space for DPCs, many of which are currently operating from rented premises without permanent infrastructure.
Responding to the delegation, CM Khandu appreciated the vital role played by the media in taking forward government programmes and policies, while also serving as an effective bridge between the administration and the people.
He assured the representatives that the issues raised would be examined at the earliest.

The CM further observed that although the roles of the media and the government may differ, their shared objective remains the collective pursuit of a better society, a stronger Arunachal Pradesh and a stronger nation.

Describing the interaction as encouraging, APC president Sangno said the meeting concluded on a positive note and expressed hope that the demands raised by APC-APUWJ would be addressed soon.

The meeting was attended by APUWJ General Secretary Sonam Jelly, presidents and general secretaries of various DPCs, Secretary (Planning) R K Sharma, PRO to the Chief Minister Jambey Kochi, Deputy Director (IPR) Denga Bengia, among others.

The East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organisation (ESKWCO) has written to Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, alleging massive irregularities in land compensation for the Lada-Sarli stretch of the Arunachal Frontier Highway in East Kameng district.

In a letter dated January 5, 2026, ESKWCO claims compensation was disbursed illegally without proper verification, leading to embezzlement of government funds.

The organisation demands:

(1) Immediate arrest of involved government officials and private individuals, including branch managers of banks like SBI, PNB, Axis, ICICI, HDFC, CBI, and Canara Bank.

(2) Handover of the case to CBI and Enforcement Directorate for fair investigation.

(3) Departmental enquiries and termination of guilty officials.

(4) Termination of job from the services, if found guilty.

(5) Recovery of misused funds.

(6) Immediate steps to carry out the ex*****on of work.

The demands come amid an ongoing multi-crore scam probe, where five officials were suspended in November 2025, one arrested in December, and fresh land re-verification ordered. ESKWCO urges prompt action to address public grievances.
