Protest Against Illegal Construction on Government Land in Tarapukur, FIR Warning Issued
Residents of Ward No. 28 in the Tarapukur area under Serampore Municipality staged a protest against alleged illegal encroachment and construction on government waterbody Protesters claimed that the land was filled and sold without valid documents three years ago, severely affecting the drainage system. During rains, waterlogging has become a major issue, increasing the risk of diseases like dengue.
The demonstrators accused Ward No. 27 Councillor Pintu Nag and demanded his resignation. They also warned of filing an FIR against those involved. BJP worker and local resident Payel Roy blamed the municipal authorities for negligence and demanded restoration of the waterbody to its original condition.
Councillor Pintu Nag, however, advised the protesters to lodge a formal complaint with the municipality.
