A video from a programme at Delhi’s Press Club has sparked a wider debate after participants were seen offering prayers before an image of PM Narendra Modi portrayed as a Hindu deity.

The unusual event has also raised questions about how the programme was allowed inside the media venue.

The venue has since clarified its position, saying the programme was not organised by the Press Club and that the booking conditions were violated.

Thousands of people affected by the floods in Assam are set to receive more support after the Reliance Foundation, chaired by Nita Ambani, contributed ₹21 crore to the Assam Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

The state has been struggling with widespread flooding that has damaged homes, roads and farmland while forcing many families to leave their villages.
Along with the financial assistance, the Foundation has also sent teams to help on the ground by providing food, medical care and other essential relief materials.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the contribution and said the support would strengthen the state's ongoing relief work for people hit by the disaster.

One Mizoram MLA has spent the last 90 months without taking home a single rupee from his government salary. Instead, the money has gone into helping people in need, with the total contribution now standing at around ₹1.25 crore.

The MLA is Robert Romawia Royte, who is said to have deposited his entire official salary into a separate welfare account from December 2018 to June 2026.

The initiative covered 60 months as a Cabinet Minister and 30 months as an MLA, with the funds reportedly used to assist poor families, students, churches, NGOs and other community welfare programmes across Mizoram.

According to reports, Royte said the decision was made before the 2018 Mizoram Assembly election. He recalled making a promise that if elected, he would donate his full salary to help the poor. According to him, that commitment has remained unchanged and he plans to continue the initiative.

Royte, who is also an entrepreneur, said his financial independence allowed him to dedicate his government salary to public welfare while serving as an elected representative.

He urged the government to introduce the ban with strict enforcement while encouraging visitors to support local restaurants, cafés and homestays.

The council also proposed designated picnic areas with proper waste management facilities to promote responsible and sustainable tourism.

The Meghalaya Government has issued a new directive prohibiting the felicitation of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister(s), Ministers and other state dignitaries during official State Government programmes.

Issued by the Personnel & A.R. (A) Department on Wednesday, the circular directs all administrative departments to discontinue the practice, except when a Union Minister or foreign dignitary attends an official function.

Instead, departments have been encouraged to honour members of the public and, where appropriate, allow them to briefly address the gathering.

Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo.

Golden Boot. Messi 6. Ronaldo 4.

Ballon d'Or. Messi 8. Ronaldo 5.

World Cup. Messi 1. Ronaldo 0.

There are debates in football that go on for years. This is not one of them.

These are not opinions. These are the official records of two extraordinary careers placed side by side under the same light.

Ronaldo is one of the greatest footballers ever to play the game. That is not in question.

But greatness has levels.

And when you line up every trophy, every individual award, every defining moment of a career — the same name sits at the top.
