We are privileged to have been part of the 2-day Book Exhibition conducted by MLCU Library in collaboration with Eastern Book House from 22nd to 23rd August 2023, at Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) campus located at Nongrah Shillong.

The event was able to draw students and faculty of MLCU who explored the collection of books 📚 and were able to buy them at good discounted prices.

We also sold books at a discount of 20% for students and faculty of MLCU along with a complementary book on every purchase.

"Building a new community in Bissamcuttack - by Dr. Glenn C Kharkongor" is a monograph about Dr Johnny and Mercy Omen, a couple working in Bissamcuttack, Odisha, India 🇮🇳
The book details the various initiatives that the couple introduced in the community of Bissamcuttack such as the Mitra (Madsen’s Institute for Tribal and Rural Advancement) approach and the sundry ways in which their efforts have benefited the community and improved healthcare 💪

The work also records the various projects and programs that have been successful in lowering the infant mortality rate, containing the spread of malaria, combating malnutrition amongst the tribal children, setting up educational institutions for the tribal youth and various others.

The book 📖 - "In the Shadows: Children of urban poor households in Shillong" by the Author Melari Sh**ha Nongrum - is a study on the children of urban poor households of Shillong and the effect that the adverse conditions that they are inevitably subjected to have on them.

Besides bringing these issues to light, the author also proposes certain protective factors that can be practised locally in the family 🏡 and even globally in the community 🌍 thus ensuring that stakeholders formulate a positive, effective, and holistic solution.

We conducted a Book sale yesterday, 3rd August 2023, at Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) 🏫
The event was a success as we also got to interact with students who were curious to learn about the culture and tradition of our state, Meghalaya 💫🎉

Our best sellers - "Waiting for an Equal World" (by Patricia Mukhim), "Tales of Darkness and Light" (by Janet Hujon) along with our recently launched book "Building Bridges for Wellness through Counselling and Psychotherapy" flew off our book shelves 📚

We launched 2 new books on 26th July 2023, titled "Building Bridges for Wellness through Counselling and Psychotherapy" and "Relational Gestalt Therapy in India: A Guide to Group Practice" at Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong.

The book, "Relational Gestalt Therapy in India: A Guide to Group Practice", is authored by Dr Vanaja Ammanath and published by Routledge. As for the book, "Building Bridges for Wellness through Counselling and Psychotherapy", it is published by MLCU Press as a 2nd edition in collaboration with Sampurna Montfort College who published the 1st edition.

With the launch of these 2 books, we hope to continue to engage and expand our understanding of mental health and well-being from different perspectives and cultural understandings.

This book 📖 is about the work of Soso Tham, the acknowledged poet laureate of the Khasis of northeastern India. He was one of the first Khasi writers to give written poetic form to the Khasi language.

Poet of landscape, myth and memory, Soso Tham paid a rich and poignant tribute to his tribe in his masterpiece, "The Old Days of the Khasis".
Janet Hujon's vibrant new translation presents the English reader with Soso Tham's long poem, which keeps a rich cultural signpost for their literary identity.
The book also includes QR codes that link to audio recordings of the poems read by the translator.
