Yelhomie from Manipur started writing lyrics at age 6. Not as a hobby. Because he had things inside him that needed to get out.
He named himself after the Manipuri word Yelhoumee — meaning indigenous people. Before writing one verse his name was already a statement.
His rap "Is India My Home" was written during the Manipur humanitarian crisis of 2023. 60,000 people displaced. Internet shut for 200 days. PM spoke only after 79 days.
No mainstream Indian media shared his music. No radio play. No promotion.
Because he asks questions that make people uncomfortable.
