UPDATE: The Meghalaya Forest Department has initiated inquiry into the reported incident. Senior officials from the department met us at Guwahati today and told us about the inquiry. They informed us that while the bird is not an ‘Amur Falcon’, it is a bird of the Falcon family and is also illegal for trade. The officials further informed The News Mill that they will soon carry out an awareness drive so that people know that it is a crime to catch/sell these birds.
