The conflict between tourist drivers from Assam and Meghalaya started when some Assam tourist drivers retaliated against the situation that arose during the agitation by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU). During the incident, vehicles with Meghalaya (ML) registration numbers of government were mostly targeted, with stones being hurled at them and several vehicles being damaged. However, vehicles with Assam (AS) registration numbers were also unfortunately caught up in the same situation and were attacked and beaten.
However, seems there was no intention to specifically target vehicles with AS registration numbers.
A few years ago, a similar situation occurred in Guwahati, Assam, during an agitation and the same Meghalaya vehicle got damaged. However, Meghalaya tourist vehicle drivers did not take the opportunity to take revenge, defame or retaliate against Assam as it did by Assam this time.
