Eminent writer Krishna Sobti’s play Ai Ladki came alive on 10th February at the closing ceremony of the National School of Drama prestigious 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav. Performed at Hcrftr Mandi Himachal, it left the audience spellbound. The play unfolded like an intimate whisper between life and death when a daughter is sitting beside her bedridden mother in her final days, where every word trembles with memory, pain and truth.
Ai Ladki is not merely a story; it is a soul-baring conversation. Through the fragile yet fierce dialogue between mother and daughter, Sobti presents mortality not with melodrama, but with quiet humor, and piercing insight. Written by Sobti in the aftermath of her own mother’s passing, as a way to steady her grieving heart, the work poignantly captures the vulnerability of old age, the slow physical decline of the body, and the silent psychological preparation for death. On stage, these emotions resonated powerfully, turning a private farewell into a universal meditation on life, loss, and the unbreakable bond between a mother and her child.
The play was masterfully directed by Seema Sharma, who also delivered a compelling performance in the lead role, commanding the stage with remarkable depth and presence accompanied by Riya, who delivered an impressive performance. The lighting was designed by Deep Kumar, adding depth and impact to the presentation. The music was composed by Kashmir Singh.
प्रख्यात लेखिका कृष्णा सोबती की रचना ‘ऐ लड़की’ 10 फरवरी को राष्ट्रीय नाट्य विद्यालय के प्रतिष्ठित 25वें भारत रंग महोत्सव के समापन समारोह में एचसीआरएफटीआर में मंचित की गई और दर्शकों को मंत्रमुग्ध कर गई। यह प्रस्तुति जीवन और मृत्यु के बीच की एक अंतरंग फुसफुसाहट की तरह खुलती है, अपनी अंतिम घड़ियाँ बिता रही बिस्तर पर पड़ी माँ के पास बैठी बेटी का संवाद, जहाँ हर शब्द स्मृतियों, पीड़ा, कोमलता और सच्चाई से भरा हुआ प्रतीत होता है।
‘ऐ लड़की’ मात्र एक कहानी नहीं, बल्कि आत्मा को उघाड़ देने वाला संवाद है। माँ-बेटी के कोमल किंतु तीखे संवादों के माध्यम से सोबती मृत्यु को किसी मेलोड्रामा के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि शांत विनोद और पैनी दृष्टि के साथ प्रस्तुत करती हैं। अपनी माँ के निधन के बाद, शोक संतप्त मन को संभालने के लिए लिखी गई यह कृति वृद्धावस्था की असुरक्षा, शरीर के धीमे क्षय और मृत्यु की मौन मानसिक तैयारी को अत्यंत मार्मिकता से चित्रित करती है। मंच पर ये भाव इतने सशक्त रूप में उभरे कि एक निजी विदाई जीवन, वियोग और माँ-बेटी के अटूट संबंध पर सार्वभौमिक चिंतन बन गई।
नाटक का निर्देशन सीमा शर्मा ने अत्यंत कुशलता से किया। उन्होंने मुख्य भूमिका निभाते हुए गहरी संवेदनशीलता और प्रभावशाली उपस्थिति के साथ मंच पर अपनी सशक्त छाप छोड़ी। उनके साथ रिया ने भी प्रभावशाली अभिनय किया। प्रकाश व्यवस्था दीप कुमार द्वारा की गई, जिसने प्रस्तुति को और अधिक गहराई और प्रभाव प्रदान किया। संगीत का संयोजन कश्मीर सिंह ने किया।
इस अवसर पर ज़िला पंचायत अधिकारी अंचित डोगरा मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित रहे।
