Himachal Pradesh government has decided to raise ₹700 crore through open market borrowings to fund development projects and schemes across the state. The Finance Department has issued a formal notification in this regard.

The funds will be deployed across roads, bridges, buildings, drinking water, health, education, and other infrastructure projects, in addition to development schemes already approved under the state budget.

Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly will convene its monsoon session from August 21, 2026, with the official notification issued on August 1 following Governor Kavindra Gupta's order dated July 30. The session, which is the 12th sitting of the 14th Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, has been called under Article 174(1) of the Constitution of India and will run until September 3, with a total of 10 sittings scheduled.

Meteorological Centre, Shimla, under the India Meteorological Department (IMD), has issued a heavy rainfall warning for several parts of Himachal Pradesh over the coming days, urging residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.

According to the forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely across multiple districts between July 19 and 22, with isolated heavy rain also possible on July 18 and July 23.

Sachin Kanwal (HPAS 2009), who was serving as Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister, has been posted as Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation Shimla — one of the key civic administration roles in the state capital. A 190-foot Bailey bridge in the landslide-prone Urni area of tribal district Kinnaur collapsed into the Sutlej River on Tuesday. The bridge, built around a decade ago in the disaster-affected Urni Dhank area, reportedly gave way while an overloaded dumper was crossing it.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was rescued after a difficult operation. NHAI has attributed the collapse to the overloaded vehicle, while the incident has again highlighted the fragile condition of mountain slopes and infrastructure in the region.
