Himachal Pradesh PWD and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh on Monday married Amreen Sekhon, an assistant professor at Panjab University, in a private ceremony in Chandigarh.

Amreen, daughter of Jotinder Singh Sekhon and Opinder Kaur, holds double master’s degrees, a PhD in psychology, and teaches at Panjab University. She has also undertaken studies at Harvard University.

Himachal Pradesh has announced a 50% discount on motor vehicle tax for purchasing new vehicles after scrapping old ones at authorized centers. The transport department issued a gazette notification on Thursday implementing the vehicle scrappage incentive policy.

The tax relief applies for commercial vehicles up to 8 years from registration date and private vehicles up to 15 years. Vehicle owners must scrap their old vehicles at registered vehicle scrapping facilities (RVSF) and present a Certificate of Deposit during new vehicle registration to avail the discount.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted operational approval for Sanjauli heliport along with Rampur heliport, making Sanjauli the first fully operational heliport in Himachal Pradesh under the central government's UDAN-2 scheme.

While Himachal Pradesh has numerous helipads across districts for emergency landings and government use, Sanjauli represents the state's first purpose-built heliport with complete aviation infrastructure. Unlike basic helipads that serve as simple landing spots, heliports feature comprehensive facilities including passenger terminals, fuel storage, maintenance areas, and advanced navigation systems for regular commercial operations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a comprehensive relief package of ₹1500 crore for flood-affected areas of Himachal Pradesh during his visit to assess monsoon damage in the state today.

The Prime Minister declared ex-gratia payments of ₹2 lakh each for families of deceased victims and ₹50,000 for seriously injured persons. He assured affected families of all possible assistance from the central government during this difficult period.
