Awareness Camp on To***co Free Youth Campaign 3.0 held at GDC Doda
DODA, OCTOBER 9: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh and under the supervision of District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Zubair Ahmed, the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women organized an Awareness Camp on To***co Free Youth Campaign 3.0 (TFYC 3.0) at Government Degree College Doda.
The To***co Free Youth Campaign 3.0, launched nationwide today aims to raise awareness among young people about the harmful effects of to***co use and to promote a to***co-free learning environment in educational institutions across India. The primary objective of the event was to educate students on safeguarding their health and contributing to the well-being of society.
The Sankalp Hub team hosted an informative and interactive session highlighting the severe health risks associated with to***co consumption, including cancer, heart and lung diseases and addiction. The resource persons emphasized that to***co not only deteriorates physical health but also has emotional, social and financial consequences for families, thereby threatening the nation’s future by fostering unhealthy habits among the youth.

Sakeena Itoo inaugurates 100-Bedded KGBV Girls hostel at D.H. Pora
KULGAM, OCTOBER 09: Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Sakeena Itoo today inaugurated the newly constructed 100-bedded KGBV girls’ hostel at D.H. Pora.
Constructed by the R&B Department at the cost of Rs. 2.85 crore, the hostel will provide safe and comfortable accommodation for ST and underprivileged girl students, promoting education and empowering young girls in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing educational infrastructure and stressed that empowering girls is key to building a better future.
Earlier, she also laid the foundation stone for the construction of additional classrooms at Government High School Watoo. She highlighted that the government has initiated and completed several projects to strengthen the education ecosystem in the district.

Focus on stronger enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation to combat drug abuse
PULWAMA, OCTOBER 09: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, today chaired the 27th District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting at the administrative complex Pulwama to review ongoing measures and strategise further actions aimed at curbing drug abuse, preventing trafficking, and ensuring effective rehabilitation of affected individuals across the district.
The meeting commenced with a detailed department-wise review of progress achieved on the key areas such as enforcement, destruction of wild cannabis and poppy straw, awareness campaigns, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Officers from the Police, Health, Education, Revenue, Agriculture, and Horticulture Departments presented updates on targets achieved since the previous meeting and outlined their upcoming action plans.
Emphasising the crucial role of institutional participation, Dr. Qayoom urged the establishment of “Nasha Mukht Clubs” in all educational institutions, including colleges, to intensify awareness campaigns and promote a drug-free academic environment. He further stressed on intensifying efforts to declare all educational institutions in the district completely drug-free.
On the rehabilitation front, it was informed that 347 counselling sessions were conducted in the month of September by Addiction Treatment Facility(ATF), Pulwama bringing the cumulative number of sessions held this year in the district to over 11,300. The DC directed the concerned department to further strengthen Addiction Treatment Facility to ensure quality care, sustained recovery, and social reintegration of victims.
Dr. Qayoom also instructed the Revenue, excise and Agriculture & Allied Departments to work in close coordination for the identification and elimination of illegal cultivation and to promote alternative crops as part of rehabilitation measures.
In regard to pharmaceutical regulation, the DC directed officers to identify and restrict the misuse of drugs prone to abuse. He further instructed for regular inspections of courier services to prevent the illegal transport and supply of psychotropic substances.
Reviewing the status of cases under the NDPS Act, Dr. Qayoom stressed on time-bound investigation and prosecution to ensure deterrence and effective enforcement of law against offenders.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pulwama, P.D. Nitya; SSP Awantipora, Sajad Ahmad Shah; and officers from the Health, Education, and Police Departments, besides other district and sectoral officers.

Emphasizes on importance of mental well-being of healthcare professionals for quality healthcare service delivery
SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 09: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo inaugurated two days Annual Sports Meet-2025 of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar at Boys Hostel Bemina here today.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Minister underscored the crucial link between the physical and mental well-being of healthcare professionals and its impact on overall quality of healthcare delivery.
“Our doctors and medical students are the backbone of healthcare system. Their physical fitness and emotional balance directly influence the care they provide. Initiatives like these help rejuvenate their spirits and foster teamwork and positivity”, Minister Sakeena stated.
Commending GMC Srinagar for organizing the event, the Minister highlighted that sports and recreational activities are essential components of stress management, especially for those in demanding medical professions. She underlined that sports plays a vital role in decreasing the mental stress that medical students face while adhering to their rigorous academic schedule.
The Minister also asked the GMC Srinagar administration to upgrade facilities at this playground of Boys Hostel so that maximum students are attracted towards extra curricular activities.
Principal GMC Srinagar, Dr. Iffat Hassan expressed gratitude to the Minister for constant support. She said that sports improve confidence, balance, focus and appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee.
Earlier, the Minister interacted with participants, faculty and medical students.

Pertinently, during the two days Annual Sports Meet sporting events like cricket, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis, carrom, tug of war, and musical chair are being held, besides track and field events like 100m, 200m, 400m, relay, shot put, javelin throw, and discus throw will also form the part of sports meet. Fun games like matka race, sack race, and spoon and egg race also added energy to the program to celebrate camaraderie and holistic well-being among medical professionals and students.

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 08: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo today reviewed the ongoing process of recruitments in the Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education departments, emphasizing the need for expediting appointments to ensure better service delivery at the grassroots level.
Chairing a review meeting with senior officers of Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB), the Minister underlined the importance of strengthening key public service sectors, particularly health, which continues to play a critical role in community welfare. She expressed concern over the delay in filling vacant posts and directed that all procedural bottlenecks be addressed on priority to ensure timely recruitment.
“The health sector is directly linked to the well-being of our people. Timely filling of medical, paramedical, and support staff positions is essential for improving patient care and reducing the workload on existing employees,” Minister Sakeena maintained.
The Minister also took stock of vacancies in the Education department, stressing that schools, especially in rural and far-flung areas, must not suffer due to staff shortages. She called for a transparent and merit-based recruitment process to ensure deserving candidates are given fair opportunities.
The Minister urged the concerned authorities to maintain coordination between recruiting agencies and departments to avoid unnecessary delays. She reiterated her commitment to ensuring that both the health and education sectors receive focused attention, noting that these are the pillars of a progressive and inclusive society.
“The youth of Jammu and Kashmir are our strength. Creating employment opportunities through timely and transparent recruitment will not only strengthen institutions but also restore faith in governance,” the Minister stated.
While reviewing status of recruitments in Social Welfare department, Sakeena Itoo underscored the need for regular monitoring and inter-departmental coordination to avoid procedural delays. She called upon officials to submit detailed status reports on vacancies, selection progress, and appointment timelines to ensure continuous oversight.

POSHAN Maah: Reasi hosts awareness camp at AWC Marhi to promote nutrition, health
REASI, OCTOBER 08: A special Awareness Camp was today organized at Anganwadi Centre (AWC) Marhi by POSHAN Project Reasi under the ongoing POSHAN Maah celebrations. The event aimed at educating beneficiaries about the importance of right nutrition, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.
As part of the camp, medical screening of beneficiaries was conducted by a dedicated team of doctors from District Hospital Reasi. The medical experts also sensitized participants about the importance of timely vaccination, exclusive breastfeeding and other crucial aspects of maternal and child health.
The programme was presided over by the District Programme Officer, Sudarshan Kumar in presence of CDPO Suninderjeet Kour.
During the session, the officials elaborated the objectives and functioning of Mission POSHAN, highlighting its role in ensuring holistic nourishment and well-being for women and children.

DC reviews progress under District Capex Budget 2025–26 in Udhampur
UDHAMPUR, OCTOBER 08: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai today chaired a meeting of officers from across line departments to review the physical and financial progress recorded under the District Capex Budget 2025–26, including the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Rajinder Singh; IAS Probationer Seerat Baji; Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh; Assistant Commissioner Development Om Parkash and other district officers.
While reviewing the progress under SASCI, the DC directed the concerned departments to expedite the pace of work and ensure completion of all projects under the scheme by March 2026.
The DC took an extensive review of progress achieved under different components, including District Capex Budget, DDC/BDC/PRI Grants, ADP, Untied Grants and ABDP, Labour budget performance under MGNREGA etc. Department-wise performance of sectors such as Irrigation, PHE, PWD, RDD, Health, Education, JPDCL and others was also reviewed.
Emphasizing timely ex*****on, the DC instructed all departments to ensure 100% allotment of works at the earliest and accelerate the utilization of allotted funds. She also directed Block Development Officers to prioritize the completion of pending projects in mission mode and initiate billing of completed works without delay.
The DC further instructed the executing agencies to adhere strictly to timelines and conduct regular site visits to maintain quality and transparency of developmental works across the district.

SHOPIAN POLICE ARRESTED ONE DRUG PEDDLER; 530 GRAMS OF CHARAS RECOVERED

Shopian, October 08, 2025:
In its continued crackdown against the drug menace, Shopian Police recovered contraband substances from the residential house of Manzoor Ahmad Malik, son of Gh. Ahmad Malik, resident of Melhura Zainapora, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Wachi.

Acting on specific information, Police Station Zainapora registered a case under FIR No. 82/2025 of the NDPS Act and obtained a search warrant from the Hon’ble Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Shopian. Subsequently, a team from Police Post Wachi, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the house of the accused.

During the search, 530 grams of charas-like substance was recovered. The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.

The operation was meticulously carried out by In-charge Police Post Wachi, SI Kaiser Maqbool, under the supervision of SDPO Zainapora, Shri Waseem Ahmad, JKPS, and the overall supervision of SSP Shopian, Shri Anayat Ali Chowdhary, IPS.

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 6: A five-day workshop on Business Management & Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), jointly organized by the Branch MSME Development & Facilitation Office (DFO) Srinagar, Ministry of MSME, and AIC–CSIR-IIIM, concluded today at Srinagar.
During the workshop, expert sessions were conducted by Saheel Alaqband, Assistant Director Ministry of MSME, who elaborated on the issues faced by MSMEs in the field of IP and solutions to overcome them.. A special session was also delivered by Zainab Syed, IP Attorney, and M.H. Makhdoomi.
During the workshop, a detailed presentation on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and its benefits for entrepreneurs was followed by an insightful session on Financial Management, focusing on effective resource utilization and planning for MSMEs.
Speakers highlighted the importance of IPR in protecting innovation, building strong brands, and enhancing business competitiveness. A total of 25 participants attended the workshop, gaining insights into entrepreneurship, trademarks, patents, and MSME support schemes.
The entrepreneurs were urged to leverage IPR and Ministry schemes to safeguard their innovations and explore new growth opportunities.
During the valedictory session, participants shared positive feedback and thanked the Ministry of MSME for organizing the awareness program.
