Cachar Police Seize He**in Worth Rs. 2.82 Crore in Twin Anti-Narcotics Operations, Two Arrested

In a major anti-narcotics crackdown, Cachar Police on Saturday (9 May) seized suspected he**in worth around Rs. 2.82 crore in two separate operations conducted under Sonai Police Station and Lailapur Police Patrol Post. The operations led to the recovery of a total of 564.60 grams of suspected he**in and the arrest of two individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking activities.

In the first operation near Gastola Tiniali, police apprehended Riyaz Uddin Laskar and recovered seven soap boxes containing 123.51 grams of suspected he**in along with Rs. 40,000 in cash. In another operation at the Lailapur naka checking point, police intercepted a scooty bearing registration number AS 11Z 7991 and recovered 33 soap boxes containing 441.09 grams of suspected he**in concealed inside the vehicle. The contraband was allegedly recovered from the possession of Jiyabur Rahman Laskar. Police said further investigation is underway to trace possible links to larger narcotics networks operating in the region.

Breaking its silence on Saturday, the administration of Holy Flower Senior Secondary School addressed the media regarding the death of a KG-1 student inside the classroom. The school authorities expressed grief over the incident and informed that the institution has remained shut for 2 days as a mark of respect.

The administration also stated that after reviewing the CCTV footage, the two teachers who were present inside the classroom during the incident have been suspended.

As part of Barak Bulletin’s Citizen Journalism Initiative, we received reports and photos from residents of Sonai Road in Silchar, opposite 2nd Link Road near the KTM showroom, alleging that a drain construction project started nearly two years ago still remains incomplete. A heartbreaking incident from Katigorah has sparked outrage after a 5-year-old KG student died inside his classroom during tiffin time. CCTV footage reportedly shows the child lying motionless for several minutes while teachers were present inside the class, raising serious questions over the response during the emergency.

The child, identified as Shakibul Alam, was later taken to Katigorah Model Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. While the family has alleged negligence, the school principal has denied wrongdoing. The exact cause of death will be known only after post-mortem.

Unfortunate. A young kid fell down in the classroom after swallowing something. Was lying unconscious on the floor and never got up.

The father further said that his son had no serious medical condition and had gone to school normally that morning. He described the child as completely healthy.

One man and one woman were detained in Silchar’s Ramnagar area after Cachar Police recovered a hand gr***de, an illegal 9mm pistol, five rounds of ammunition and suspicious documents from a rented house at FCI Lane; the detainees have been identified as Laishram Tikei and Monalisa Sanu, reportedly from Churachandpur, Manipur, who were living as tenants posing as traders, while the man claimed he kept the weapons for “safety” citing the ongoing conflict in Manipur, though he admitted to having no licence, prompting further investigation into how the arms reached the city and whether there are wider links.
