The body of an infant baby boy, roughly 5 to 6 months old, was recovered near the Katigorah–Badarpur connecting Gamon bridge along National Highway 6 in Thandapur, Katigorah of Cachar district.

Passers-by noticed the body wrapped in blanket and alerted authorities. Although the incident occurred in Cachar’s Katigorah area, Panchgram Police from Hailakandi—being the nearest—reached the spot and retrieved the body in the presence of a magistrate.

Whether this is a case of murder is yet to be confirmed. Further details are awaited.

Ukil Bazar's market complex that remained under construction since 2018 is set to see it's completion within 6 months assured Silchar Municipal Corporation's Commissioner, Srishti Singh.

SMC Commissioner Srishti Singh has set a six-month deadline for completing the long-pending Ukil Bazar market shed in Tarapur, Silchar — incomplete since 2018 despite multiple extensions. The contractor has been warned of criminal action, including an FIR for alleged cheating, if the handover is not completed on time. The five-storey PPP project with 38 planned shops should have finished 1.5 years ago, but progress stalled, allegedly due to delays from the promoter. Following complaints from stallholders and a recent review and field visit, the SMC ordered immediate action. Vendors, waiting for seven years, now hope the project will finally be completed.

Silchar Lok Sabha MP Parimal Suklabaidya strongly rebuked the contractor, supervisor and NHIDCL officials for alleged poor construction quality of a drain along the Sonai Road.

The MP was visibly dissatisfied and even reprimanded the site supervisor, directing immediate improvement in work standards during his inspection of the Silchar–Sonai Road drain work and road-building activities on Wednesday (November 26).

Suklabaidya also reviewed progress on multiple Bharatmala Pariyojana projects including Ramnagar ISBT–Kalinagar road, and the Silchar–Vairengte four-lane project from Sonabarighat–Bhaga–Lailapur. He urged authorities to ensure durable, long-lasting work instead of rushed output.

The Cachar district administration has halted the commercial expo scheduled from December 1 at Silchar Football Academy ground and issued a show-cause notice to Silchar Sporting Club for allowing non-sporting activities without permission.

The decision came after an inspection ordered by District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, following a legal notice from the academy and a silent protest by nearly 30 young footballers on November 23.

District Magistrate Phunlalngir Chorei, who inspected the venue on Tuesday evening (November 25), has directed an immediate halt to all construction and tent-pitching work until further orders.

The academy, which trains around 150 players and has produced national-level talent, had alleged that its training space was being unfairly converted into a commercial fairground.

Severe erosion in Buribail Part-2 under Borkhola, Cachar, has washed away the last remaining road connecting the area to the district, cutting off mobility for over 5,000 residents. Locals say the Barak River has been eroding the region for 20–25 years, destroying large areas of land and hundreds of homes. With the road now gone, students are facing major difficulties travelling to school, and even ambulances or autos cannot enter the villages. Residents allege repeated appeals for government intervention have gone unanswered and demand immediate construction of embankments and restoration of the road before the situation worsens.
