Minister Krishnendu Paul Emphasises Faster Progress on Bharatmala, Asom Mala and Other Key Road Projects
Assam Minister for Public Health Engineering, Hill Areas and Barak Valley Development and Guardian Minister of Cachar, Krishnendu Paul, has emphasised expediting the progress of roads and infrastructure projects under Bharatmala, Asom Mala and other major schemes across the three districts of the Barak Valley.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday at the conference hall of the Assam Secretariat, Barak Valley, located in Srikona, Silchar, Minister Paul said that a review meeting of the Barak Valley Development Department was held earlier in the day. Several projects for road repair and improvement were discussed during the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the progress of several important development projects across the Barak Valley in detail. The concerned departments and construction agencies were directed to accelerate the pace of work and complete the projects within the stipulated timelines.
The minister said that, following special instructions from Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, a road map will be prepared for road repairs across the Barak Valley. A special review meeting was held keeping the upcoming Durga Puja festivities in mind, with particular emphasis on road repairs.
He said it was decided to expedite repair and construction works under Asom Mala, national highways and NHIDCL projects. A report focusing on the repair of the road from Silchar to Churaibari will also be submitted to the Chief Minister.
He further said that the Assam Secretariat, Barak Valley, Silchar, would continue to work towards the development of the Barak Valley. Expressing pride as a resident of the Barak Valley, he said that four-lane roads are now being developed in the region, whereas even double-lane road projects were previously difficult to complete. He credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the ongoing development of Assam.

Early construction of the Madarpur Bridge over the Barak River
Silchar–Barapani Express Highway
Progress of roads being constructed under the Bharatmala project across the three districts of the Barak Valley
Progress of roads being constructed under the Asom Mala project
Construction of the flyover in Silchar city
Road construction work from Birbal Bazar to the Medical College
Construction of Sreebhumi Medical College
Construction progress of the Silchar District Commissioner’s Office
The progress of various other important development projects across the Barak Valley and measures for their speedy implementation were also reviewed in detail.
The meeting was attended by Minister Kaushik Rai; MLAs Bijoy Malakar, Rajdeep Goala, Amiya Kanti Das, Aminul Haque Laskar, Zuber Enam and Aminul Rashid Choudhury; the District Commissioners of the three Barak Valley districts Rahul Gupta, Pradip Kumar Dwivedi and Jai Bikash; Additional Secretary Aditya Vikram Yadav; PWD Commissioner and Special Secretary Sanjib Shyam; NHIDCL Executive Director Kisan Jambhulkar; and officials from the Power and Forest departments.
