A daring robbery took place in Surendra Dhar Lane, Ambicapatty, Silchar, where thieves escaped with 12 bhori of gold ornaments and other valuables.

The incident occurred at the rented house of Piyush Chandra Das, a resident of Surendra Dhar Lane. According to Das, the thieves broke the back window of the house and fled with 12 bhori of gold jewelry and ₹3 lakh in cash stored in a trunk.

He said that on Sunday morning, upon waking up, he found his belongings
scattered all over the room. His screams drew the attention of neighbors, who quickly gathered at the scene. Upon receiving information, a large police team arrived and began investigation.

Meanwhile, the incident has sparked widespread tension and shock across the locality.

A traditional Sora Chitra (Sora painting) workshop was held on Saturday at the Teachers’ Training College in Silchar, organized by the cultural organization Shilpangan. The event was jointly organized in collaboration with the Teachers’ Training College and the Centre for Indian Knowledge System. Around 75 artists and 50 students of the college participated enthusiastically in the workshop.

According to the organizers, the main objective of the workshop was to revive and promote the traditional Sora painting of rural Cachar among the local people and the younger generation. Officials from Shilpangan also informed that, as part of their silver jubilee celebration, the organization plans to hold a series of events throughout the year, giving special focus to the revival of lost art and culture of the region.

The two-day workshop marks the second event of the silver jubilee celebrations. The organizers have sought everyone’s cooperation to make the event successful and memorable.

According to official sources, the Assam University in Silchar’s Department of Mass Communication was the first department in Northeast India to offer a full-fledged postgraduate programme in Mass Communication (established in 1996).

The Department of Mass Communication, Assam University, Silchar, celebrated 30 glorious years with an online special lecture on “India and the Changing Geopolitics of Global Communication.” Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, chaired the session, with Prof. Daya Kishan Thussu as Chief Guest and Dr. Uma Shankar Pandey as Discussant. The event marked a milestone in Northeast India’s media education journey.

Dimasa Writers’ Forum president Mukteswar Kemprai labeled the Martyrs of 1961 as "Bangladeshis and foreigners," triggering widespread outrage. Congress leader Abhijit Paul visited the office of Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Parthapratim Das, demanding an explanation as to why Kemprai had not been arrested despite the heinous and insulting nature of his statement. Emerging from the meeting, Paul informed the media that the SSP had assured him that necessary action would be taken against Kemprai.

Meanwhile, Abhijit Paul also addressed the issue of the BJP filing a case against Congress workers for singing the Rabindrasangeet 'Amar Sonar Bangla Ami Tomay Bhalobashi' at the Sribhumi District Congress office. Paul noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has recited this song at political rallies in West Bengal. Paul then challenged the BJP, asking if they would proceed to file a sedition case against the Prime Minister as well.
