A Hero Super Splendor bike was stolen in broad daylight from Tulargram Part II, near MCD College in Sonai.

The owner, hardware shopkeeper Sabul Hussain Laskar, had left the key in the ignition while attending Friday prayers.

CCTV footage shows a youth swiftly riding away with the bike.

A police complaint has been filed at Sonai Police Station. Locals say this incident again proves the presence of an active bike theft ring in the area.

In a significant verdict, the Special POCSO Court in Cachar, presided over by Judge Narayan Kuri, has sentenced two individuals to a 5-year jail term for molesting a minor girl. On July 17 (Thursday), the court announced the judgement for auto-rickshaw driver Didarul Islam (40) of Tarinipur Part II and his accomplice, Bahar Uddin Raj Barbhuiya (35) of West Gobindapur Part III, both under Katigorah Police Station.

The incident dates back to September 10, 2017, when a 17-year-old girl from the Katigorah area boarded an auto from Chourangi around 10 a.m. to visit a relative in Fulbari. The vehicle was driven by Didarul, while Bahar Uddin was accompanying him. During the ride, near Gobindapur ME School, the duo allegedly began harassing the girl inside the vehicle.

Assam just saw the biggest eviction drive ever to free government land from illegal occupation.

Out of the 1.19 lakh bighas of land freed in Assam, the administration and law enforcement agencies have freed 3,291.91 bighas of land in Cachar, 1,960.78 bighas in Hailakandi and 5,534.48 bighas were evicted from encroachment in Sribhumi.

Total, 11,787.17 bighas of land were made eviction free in Barak Valley.

The General Manager (Project) of NHIDCL PM-Silchar has officially announced the completion of the repair works of Gamon Bridge over the Barak River. The bridge will be opened in a ceremony at around 4:30 PM today (July 15) towards the Katigorah side of the bridge.
Initially the bridge will be opened for Light Motor Vehicles only.
