Sadar PS Rescues Mentally Unstable Bhutanese National; Reunites Him with Family After Six Months
On 08th July, PI Niraj Khatiwada, SHO Sadar Police Station, received a telephonic report regarding an elderly person found living in a destitute condition near Denzong Fatak. Responding swiftly, the team from Sadar PS rescued the individual and admitted him to Freedom Rehabilitation Centre for medical care and shelter.
Upon further inquiry, the person was identified as Sonam Topgay, 49 years old, a resident of Zhamgang District, Bhutan. It was revealed that he was mentally unstable and had arrived in Sikkim around six months ago to offer prayers at Chorten Monastery, Deorali, but had lost his way and failed to return home.
Today, with the assistance and coordination of Duars Expressmail NGO, Mr. Sonam Topgay is being safely repatriated to Bhutan and will be reunited with his family after a prolonged separation.
Gangtok District police extends sincere appreciation to Freedom Rehabilitation Centre for their compassionate care and support during Mr. Topgay’s stay, and to Duars Expressmail NGO for their pivotal role in facilitating his safe return home.
