Today, Raju Bista Member of Parliament from Darjeeling District met with Union Minster for Road, Transport and Highways and informed him about the massive delay in the restoration of National Highway 10 (NH-10), and the related difficulties faced by the people from Kalimpong, Sikkim and Darjeeling region.

On the 4th of October, 2023 a massive flashflood on Teesta has washed away many portions of the NH10. However despite it being over 70 days the road connection has only been restored partially.

Making the Hon'ble Minister aware of the major problems arising out of this delay, He conveyed to him that even till date bigger vehicles such as trucks and buses (above 6-tonnes) are unable to pass. Because of this, the truck drivers have been forced to drive on narrow mountain roads, putting their lives to risk. This has caused massive surge in the price of food, fuel and other essentials in our border regions.

One of the main reasons for this delay has been because around 50km portion of NH-10 is maintained by the West Bengal PWD, and they don't seem to have the technical capability to maintain this strategically important road. He therefore requested Nitin Gadkari ji to kindly hand-over the entire portion of NH-10 to NHIDCL.

Raju bista happy to share that Nitin ji has today instructed his Ministry officials to initiate this process of taking over the portion of NH-10 from WBPWD and handing it over to NHIDCL without any further delay.

NH-10 is the lifeline for the border region of Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Sikkim. Everyday delay in repairing this road is causing damages to our tourism industry, and harassment to the people living in our region.

MP is most hopeful that once NHIDCL takes over the NH-10 entirely, NH-10 will be better maintained, and we can provide better services to the people of our region.

Today, Darjeeling MP Shri Raju Bista met with Hon'ble Amit Shah ji, to inform him about the ground situation and realities facing our Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Sikkim region after the flashflood in Teesta river.

He informed him about the struggles of the people who were living along NH-10 on the banks of river Teesta, and how their lives have been turned upside down.

Hon'ble Amit Shah ji sated that "it is our collective responsibility to stand with the people of Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Sikkim during these challenging times, and we are doing so. The Central Government will do everything possible to provide all necessary support to help the survivors to get back on their feet at the earliest."

Raju Bistar most grateful to Hon'ble Amit Shah ji, who has time and again exhibited his soft corner for our region and people. Meeting with him has filled me with the confidence that the fate and future of Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars is set to become brighter.

Today, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista met with the permanent workers at Adivasi Busty in Pyarelal Tea Estate, Bhaispita Ambari Village area under Haptia Gram Panchayat, Chopra Block of Uttar Dinajpur District. All the workers belong to the Adivasi Community and they are facing forceful ousting measures executed by organised land mafia sheltered by the ruling party. The Adivasi people have been living in the garden since the time of their ancestors. For generations they have been living in small huts built near the plantations. However in the recent times, these land near the plantations have been usurped by Land Mafia, who are provided full administrative support by the ruling government MLAs and their administration. The people informed me how a village consisting of nearly 150 tribal families was surrounded by criminals from all sides and attacked. The criminals burned down 12 houses, and sprayed bullets from guns and pellet guns and threw bombs at them. 13 individuals were seriously injured due to gunshot wounds and many of them are still undergoing treatment at NBMCH They looted majority of the households, and taking advantage of the commotion even molested helpless women and children. The condition of women and children who have been made displaced fromt heir homes is extremely worrisome. They are traumatized, living in temporary shelters, and don't have access to basic facilities. The criminals did this in order to evacuate the Adivasi families from their homes, so that the land could be grabbed and sold. Locals also informed me that majority of those who are being newly settled may not even be Indians. Rather, they are cross border infiltrators who are being settled in the sensitive "Chicken Neck" region to ensure "demographic shift" here. Locals also complained that these Land Mafia are getting funding from abroad and settling the infiltrators in traditional Adivasi land. All of this is happening right in front of the eyes of Chopra police, yet they have tu
