The condition of NH-10 in Setijhora (main area) is a serious concern. Major cracks have appeared on the road, making it unsafe for regular commuting. As an immediate measure, tow protection work needs to be carried out, once the water level recedes.
Teesta river has risen significantly in the area, and desilting is critical to prevent further damage. The hillside is a vertical slope, which makes any cutting work extremely risky and dangerous.
For a long-term solution, there is a clear need to realign the road and construct an elevated stretch at the site to ensure safety and sustainability.
I am coming to the realisation that one of the major issues is the lack of coordination between the key agencies involved, NHIDCL, IRCON, and NHPC. These agencies cannot continue working in isolation. Unless there is a joint, long-term approach, the problem will remain unresolved.
It is also concerning that basic emergency services like ambulances, water tankers, patrolling vehicle and towing cranes are not available in the area. These should be in place and ready for use during any emergency.
I am closely watching the progress of NHIDCL, especially now that they have taken over from the PWD. I will do everything necessary to bring more experts, geologists, engineers and even include BRO to make sure that the road is made world class.
