Kalimpong Ultramarathon 2025 Successfully Concludes with 450 Runners from Across India
Kalimpong, April 26, 2025: The third edition of the Kalimpong Ultramarathon, organized by Run with Roshni Foundation, concluded with great enthusiasm and national spirit on April 26, 2025, at St. George’s School Ground, Pedong Bazar. The event saw participation from 450 runners across India, including cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Jamnagar, Assam, Nagaland, and Sikkim.
The event featured five race categories: 90 km, 65 km, 42 km, 21 km, and 12 km. The 90 km, 65 km, and 42 km races were flagged off at 5:00 AM by Colonel Ritchie Ashwin S, Commanding Officer of 18 Madras Regiment (Mysore). The flag-off was preceded by a two-minute silence in honor of the 26 martyrs of the Pehelgam terrorist attack, followed by the National Anthem. The 21 km and 12 km races were flagged off at 7:30 AM by Mr. Chewang Tamang, BDO, Pedong Block, and Mr. Laxuman Pokhrel, OC, Pedong Police Station.
All races began and ended at St. George’s School Ground, with designated turnarounds for each distance: Chummirchen (12 km), Rikisum (21 km), Lava (42 km), Kuwapani (65 km), and Phaperkheti (90 km).

Community & Support
The event was made possible with logistics support from the 18 Madras Regiment posted at Dalapchand, and volunteers from Pedong Degree College and St. George’s School. Route support came from Nava Jyoti Club, Chummirchen youth, Lava Sports Club, Self-Help Groups, and locals from Kuwapani and Phaperkheti.
With sponsorship from Bharat Rasayan Ltd., cash prizes were awarded:
90 km: Rs. 15,000
65 km: Rs. 10,000
42 km: Rs. 8,000
21 km: Rs. 5,000
12 km: Rs. 3,000
Young local runners (aged 14–25) from the 21 km and 12 km categories were selected to represent Run with Roshni Foundation at the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026.
The event was graced by dignitaries including Mr. Bharat Chettri (Former Indian Hockey Captain), Mr. Kamal S***a, Mrs. Pushpa S***a, and Rev. Sister Ragani Mondal among others.
Mr. Satish Gujaran, the only Indian to complete the Comrades Marathon in South Africa, served as the Race Ambassador and was honored with the Mount Everest Honour Award (INR 8848.86) by Bikram Pande Kaaji and Miss Roshni Rai, Goodwill Ambassador of Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon for India.
The following day, participants were treated to a curated Kalimpong Heritage Tour, promoting local tourism and benefiting homestays in Pedong.
Run with Roshni Foundation has been working since 2012 to promote local talent, and its athletes have earned accolades across major marathons in India.
