Order to implement all govt schemes in tea, Cinchona gardens
Press Release/4th of June, 2026
On behalf of the people from Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars, particularly the residents of tea gardens and cinchona gardens, I thank Hon'ble Chief Minister Sh. Suvendu Adhikari ji, for allowing the implementation of all government projects and welfare schemes in tea garden areas and cinchona garden areas.
On 29th May 2026, I had written to the Hon’ble Chief Minister requesting him to permit the same. I had highlighted how the workers in these gardens were deliberately deprived for the past fifteen years by the Trinamool Congress government, which actively opposed the implementation of various development projects and welfare schemes in these areas.
With this timely order, tea and cinchona garden workers will now receive easier enrolment under Ayushman Bharat, upgraded health centres, and new Anganwadi and ICDS facilities in the garden areas. They will also get coverage under the Jal Jeevan Mission, 125 days of work under G-RAM for those not fully employed in the gardens, and access to alternative livelihood opportunities through the National Rural Livelihood Mission and State Skill Missions.
Workers in sick and closed tea gardens will benefit from diversification programmes. Women will gain from self-help groups and micro-enterprises, while children will have better access to quality schools, scholarships, mid-day meals and vocational training. Families will now receive National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) old-age, widow and disability pensions, improved PDS services and coverage under schemes like Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Annapurna Yojana.
Importantly, infrastructure development including rural roads through PMGSY, PMAY Grameen and PMAY Urban, worker housing and reliable electricity supply can now be expedited. Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin programmes can be implemented. Development planning for these areas can proceed smoothly without any jurisdictional hurdles.
Under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi ji, Hon’ble Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari ji, the BJP government has taken concrete steps towards addressing the concerns of our region, and given top priority towards to solving the issues faced by tea workers and cinchona workers, be it assisting them through SIR process, or implementing welfare schemes. In the coming days, we will be sharing happier news with them.
