Subject: Appeal for Re-listing of Indian Gorkhas as Tribals.
Your Excellency,
I write this letter to you as a humble activist of the Indian Gorkha community, expressing our heartfelt concerns regarding the historical and socio-political status of our people.
While 26th January is a day of immense pride for every Indian as we celebrate our Republic Day. I would like to bring forth a long standing issue that continues to dampen the spirits of the Indian Gorkhas on this auspicious occasion.
During the framing of our revered Constitution, we had notable representatives from the Gorkha community in the Constituent Assembly, namely "The Late Mr. Damber Singh Gurung" and "The Late Mr. Ari Bahadur Gurung". These eminent figures, while representing the Gorkha community, raised the point that we were a hill tribe deserving of tribal status. However, despite their efforts and contributions, when the Indian Constitution was enacted, the Gorkhas were delisted from their tribal status.
For the last 75 years of the implementation of the constitution, the Indian Gorkha community has continuously voiced its conce and appealed for justice in this regard. We remain a proud, patriotic, and integral part of the Indian fabric, but the absence of trib recognition for the Gorkhas has left many of us disillusioned and with a sense of exclusion from our rightful identity.
Your Excellency, as we celebrate 75 years of our Constitution's implementation, it is my humble appeal to you that justice be don to the Indian Gorkhas by re-listing us as tribals. Under your esteemed leadership and with your profound understanding of tribal rights, we hope that our community's decades-long quest for recognition will finally be addressed.
As an Indian Gorkha and a proud citizen, I continue to celebrate our Republic Day, but with a hope in my sorrowful heart that the Gorkha community will be granted the justice and recognition it deserves.
Thanking You,
Yours Patriotic,
Mr Sourav Parajuli Gorkha Bagrakote Dooars, Dist- Jalpaiguri 734501West Bengal,
