Gupkar Meeting; NC Has a History of Disappointing Kashmiris: Yasir Reshi
Srinagar, June 03 (CNS): Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and Organising Secretary Yasir Reshi on Wednesday said that the National Conference (NC) has repeatedly failed to utilize moments of political leverage to protect the rights and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued to the media, Reshi cautioned people against attaching unrealistic expectations to the National Conference legislators’ meeting being held at Gupkar today, asserting that Kashmiris have witnessed similar situations in the past without any meaningful outcome.
“The NC has been here before. In 1975, when Sheikh Abdullah returned from exile, Kashmiris believed their moment had arrived. In 1996, when Farooq Abdullah assumed office, people once again hoped that the party would stand up for Kashmir’s political rights and dignity. On both occasions, the NC enjoyed genuine political leverage but chose political survival over the aspirations of the people,” Reshi said.
He maintained that the ongoing meeting at Gupkar is being projected as politically significant despite what he described as the NC’s long record of failing to deliver substantial results for the people of Kashmir.
“Today’s meeting at Gupkar is being projected as something significant. It isn’t. The NC does not have a history of surprising Delhi; it has a history of disappointing Kashmiris. We have seen this script before, and there is no reason to expect a different ending this time,” he added.
Reshi reiterated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve sincere political representation and urged them to judge political parties by their track record rather than rhetoric and symbolism. (CNS)
