A grand Mega Tiranga Rally was organized today in the sub-division of Handwara, jointly led by the ADC Handwara and SSP Handwara.

Hundreds of enthusiastic school students participated in the rally, waving the national flag and raising patriotic slogans. The event also saw the presence of local administration officials, teachers, and other dignitaries.

*Sopore Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Seize Contraband Substance*

Sopore, August 12, 2025:
Continuing its drive against the menace of drugs, Sopore Police today apprehended a drug peddler during a naka checking operation at Maharajpora, Sopore.

The accused has been identified as Himayun Rasool Kundoo, son of Ghulam Rasool Kundoo, resident of Sher Colony, Sopore. During the search of a bag in his possession, police recovered poppy straw. The contraband was seized on the spot, and the accused was taken into custody.

In this regard, FIR No. 157/2025 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and further investigation is underway to identify and dismantle the network involved.

Baramulla Resonates with Patriotic Fervour with Grand Tiranga Rallies across the district

DC & SSP B'la jointly lead Mega march in Baramulla Town, joined by thousands of people, ahead of India's 79th I-Day.

Baramulla Aug 11: Ahead of Independence Day 2025, Baramulla came alive with the colours of patriotism as more than 12000 citizens from all walks of life joined a grand Tiranga Rally in the heart of the town, proudly carrying a majestic 2.5 kilometre-long tricolour.

Jointly led by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Gurinderpal Singh, the rally witnessed the participation of ADC Baramulla Syed Altaf Hussain Mausvi, other officers from the civil administration, army and police officers, officials from various departments, students, and local residents, coming together to create an unforgettable display of unity and patriotic spirit.

The rally commenced from the historic Saint Joseph School Baramulla, where thousands of enthusiastic participants carried the national flag, chanted slogans, and sang patriotic songs, honouring the sacrifices of freedom fighters and fallen heroes who gave their lives for the nation’s independence.

After passing through the heart of Baramulla town, the rally culminated at Showkat Ali Stadium, where various government departments had set up exhibition stalls and a vibrant cultural programme was presented by the students from various schools, celebrating the spirit of patriotism.

On the occasion, the DC extended his heartfelt gratitude to each and every participant of the Tiranga Rally, emphasising that their collective presence not only added vibrancy and grandeur to the celebration but also reflected the deep-rooted patriotism and unity that define the spirit of Baramulla.

Minga Sherpa further highlighted the significance of the event, underscoring that the participation of thousands of citizens, ranging from school children to elderly residents, reflected how the national spirit rises above age, background, and all other differences.

Earlier, the DC, along with the SSP, jointly flagged off a vibrant bike rally from Akbar Chowk to Showkat Ali Stadium, witnessing the enthusiastic participation of a large number of bikers carrying the Tiranga, celebrating unity and patriotic spirit in the run-up to Independence Day 2025.

Later, during his visit to Gulmarg, the DC led a high-spirited ATV Rally with tricolor fluttering in the air, traversed through the breathtaking expanse of the Gulmarg Bowl, spreading the message of patriotism.

Furthermore, in a unique display of patriotism, Minga Sherpa also flagged off a spectacular Horse Riders Rally at the picturesque tourist destination of Gulmarg stirring deep patriotic fervour, uniting locals and visitors alike in the spirit of Independence Day 2025.

The rally commenced from Government Higher Secondary School Mukam and proceeded up to Kralgund Chowk, witnessing enthusiastic participation from Handwara Police under the leadership of SHO Kralgund Mr. Sameer Altaf, Naib Tehsildar Qaziabad Mr. Murtaza Mawdoomi, along with students, staff, police personnel, and local residents.

In a remarkable display of unity, patriotism, and national pride, a Mega ever Tiranga Rally was today conducted in Sopore under the leadership of the Addl Deputy Commissioner Sopore Mr S A Raina (JKAS) , The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of more than 14000 participants from students, government officials, members of civil society, Traders Fraternity,Sports loving people and industrial association,who came together to celebrate the spirit of the nation.

Mega rally consisted of four consecutive rallies,which included , E-rickshaw,Motor cycle,cycle rally and traditional Tonga rally,in which scores of E-rickshaw etc were witnessed.
The rally commenced from MET School and culminated at Subhana Stadium Sopore,with participants proudly carrying the Tiranga and chanting patriotic slogans. The streets of Sopore were adorned with the colours of the national flag, symbolizing harmony and dedication to the ideals enshrined in the Constitution of India.
Lately a boat rally was also organised with zeal and fervor.

KUPWARA, AUGUST 11: As part of the ongoing nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Shrikant Suse (IAS) today led a Mega Tiranga Rally from Pahari Hostel Branwari.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of students, government officials, civil society members, and locals, all carrying the National Flag with pride and patriotism. Among others, ASP Kupwara, Javed Ahmad; DSP, Mohammad Rafiq and Warden Pahari Hostel, Firdous Ahmad also attended the Tiranga Rally.
The rally, which began from the Pahari Hostel Branwari, passed through different streets and markets of Kupwara town and culminated at the Fountain Chowk Kupwara, resonating with patriotic slogans and nationalistic fervor. Wild Cannabis Destroyed by Revenue and Excise Departments in Handwara

KUPWARA, AUGUST 11: In a concerted effort to curb the growth and spread of wild cannabis, teams from the Revenue Department and the Excise Department carried out a destruction drive in the Handwara region today.
Acting on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner,DC),Kupwara,Shrikant Balasaheb Suse and under the supervision of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, (ADC), Handwara,Javed Naseem Masoodi, joint team led by the Tehsildar Handwara, Zeeshan khan, along with officials from the Excise Department Kupwara, destroyed a large patch of wild cannabis at Chota Braripora, located along the Kupwara,Handwara highway.
The operation covered approximately four to five kanals of land, including a dense patch in village, where wild cannabis had been growing unchecked.
Local residents welcomed the initiative, praising the civil administration for its swift and timely intervention. They expressed hope that such actions would continue to help reduce the potential misuse of narcotic plants in the region.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining vigilance against the growth of such illegal plants and ensuring the safety and well-being of the local population.

20 Quintals of Cow Hooves & Frozen Food Items Seized in Kupwara

Kupwara, Aug 11:

The Food Safety Department Kupwara, in coordination with the Revenue Department and Kupwara Police, today carried out an extensive inspection drive across various areas of the district.

During inspections at multiple restaurants and food outlets, officials seized a large quantity of frozen food items including cow and buffalo hooves which were found stored and sold in violation of food safety norms.

In total, around 20 quintals of these frozen products were confiscated and destroyed on the spot to prevent their circulation in the market. Officials said the action was part of a sustained campaign to ensure hygienic and safe food for the public, warning that strict legal measures will be taken against repeat offenders.

Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Mohd Rafiq, while speaking to the media, said that such drives will continue in the future to safeguard public health and maintain strict compliance with food safety standards.
