The Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), today flagged off a three-day Exposure Visit of farmers and students to Gurez Valley under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Project No. 08 titled “Promotion of Nutri Cereals (Millets) in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir.”
The programme was formally flagged off by Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, in the presence of Head, Division of Agronomy, PI, HADP-08, faculty members and scientists. The visit, scheduled from 3rd to 5th November 2025, aims to provide hands-on learning and field-level exposure to participants on millet-based farming systems, value addition, and promotion of nutri cereals in hilly and tribal areas.
During the visit, the participants will interact with farmers, extension personnel, and researchers at the Mountain Agriculture Research and Extension Station (MAR&ES), Izmarg Gurez and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Gurez (Bandipora-II). The exposure tour is expected to enhance awareness regarding the nutritional, economic, and environmental importance of millets and to encourage their inclusion in local cropping systems.
The Dean, while flagging off the tour, emphasized the significance of experiential learning and the role of millets in ensuring nutritional security and climate resilience in the region. He appreciated the efforts of the project team for organizing such field-oriented programmes under HADP.
The programme is being coordinated by Dr. Lal Singh, PI of the HADP Project No. 08 (Millets).

Under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Project No. 08 titled “Promotion of Nutri Cereals (Millets) in UT of Jammu and Kashmir,” the Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), successfully organized a 3-day Capacity Building Training Programme on “Good Agricultural Practices for Profitable Millet Cultivation” from 28–30 October, 2025.
The programme aimed to enhance the technical competence of farmers and rural youth in adopting improved cultivation practices for profitable millet production under diverse agro-climatic conditions of Jammu and Kashmir. A total of 30 progressive farmers and rural youth participated enthusiastically in the training.
During the three days, participants were exposed to various technical sessions and field demonstrations covering themes such as improved varieties and seed production techniques of millets, soil health management, irrigation scheduling, integrated nutrient and pest management, post-harvest handling, value addition, and marketing avenues for millets. Special emphasis was laid on sustainable and climate-resilient practices to enhance productivity and profitability of millet-based systems.
The valedictory session began with a welcome address by Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Dar, Professor, Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura.
During the valedictory session, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized that millet cultivation not only offers nutritional and economic benefits but also contributes significantly towards achieving climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture. He appreciated the efforts of the Division of Agronomy under the HADP project for promoting millets among farmers and rural youth.
Dr. Amajad Masood, Course Coordinator presented a detailed report of the training programme and highlighted the technical aspects of the training, stressed the need for adopting scientific production technologies and efficient resource management to maximize returns from millet-based systems. He further motivated participants to adopt entrepreneurial ventures related to millet processing and value addition.
Farmers expressed their gratitude to SKUAST-K for organizing such practical and knowledge-rich training programmes, which they found highly useful in improving their understanding of millet cultivation and its profitability potential.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Tahir Ahmad Sheikh, Asstt. Prof. Division of Agronomy, who acknowledged the contributions of experts, participants, and organizing staff. Certificates of participation were distributed among all trainees.

28 October 2025, Wadura:-- Under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Project No. 08 titled “Promotion of Nutri Cereals (Millets) in UT of Jammu and Kashmir,” the Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, SKUAST-Kashmir launched a three-day Capacity Building Training Programme (28-30 October 2025) on “Good Agricultural Practices for Profitable Millet Cultivation.”
The training programme is designed to strengthen the technical capabilities of farmers and rural youth by promoting improved and sustainable agricultural practices that enhance millet productivity, profitability, and resource efficiency. About 30 participants are taking part in this event aimed at building capacity in modern millet production technologies.
The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, he underlined the growing importance of millet cultivation as a climate-smart and nutritionally rich alternative to conventional cereals. He noted that adopting scientific; eco-friendly practices can significantly raise farmers’ income while preserving soil and water resources. He further emphasized that millets, being highly nutritious and drought-tolerant, hold great promise in addressing food and nutritional security challenges in the Union Territory.
Dr. Bashir A. Alie, Prof. & Head, Division of Agronomy welcomed the Chief Guest and participants and emphasized that integrating millets into existing farming systems can improve dietary diversity, enhance farm incomes, and contribute to sustainable agricultural practices. He urged participants to explore millet cultivation as a viable option to address malnutrition, reduce dependence on water-intensive crops, and build resilience against climate uncertainties.
Earlier, Dr. Amjad Masood, Course Coordinator, extended a warm welcome to the participants and outlined the objectives and structure of the training. He highlighted the need to popularize region-specific good agricultural practices for millets and informed that the three-day programme would include expert talks, hands-on sessions, and field demonstrations covering topics such as improved millet varieties, integrated crop management, organic cultivation, and value addition strategies.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Dr. Tahir A. Sheikh, Asstt. Prof., Division of Agronomy, expressed appreciation to the Chief Guest, resource persons, and participants for their active involvement and support. He noted that the training would serve as a vital platform for linking scientific innovations with on-field applications, inspiring farmers to adopt millet-based enterprises for sustainable income generation.
This initiative under HADP Project No. 08 seeks to equip stakeholders with the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence to promote millet cultivation as a profitable, sustainable, and environmentally responsible farming system across the diverse agro-ecological regions of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura Sopore, organized one day demonstration cm awareness program on saffron cultivation under both indoor and outdoor conditions on 28-10-2025 in non-traditional saffron-growing area. The event was organized under the HADP Project No. 2— “Promotion of Niche Crops in the UT of J&K.”
The program was graced by worthy Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir and Prof. Bashir Ahmad Alie, Head, Division of Agronomy, along with faculty members, research scholars, and local farmers from adjoining areas.
During the demonstration, Head Division of Agronomy showcased the production techniques of saffron cultivation and highlighted the successful and good agricultural practices for establishment of saffron under both indoor as well as outdoor conditions۔ The activity aimed to promote expansion of saffron cultivation beyond its conventional areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir emphasized the significance of adopting scientific cultivation practices to enhance productivity and profitability of niche crops. He also appreciated the initiative taken by Division of agronomy for translating research into field-level demonstration, thereby motivating farmers towards diversification and adoption of niche crops.
An encouraging response was witnessed from the farmers, who expressed keen interest in adopting saffron cultivation in their fields after observing the successful performance of the crop at the demonstration site.
The event was simultaneously highlighted by symbolic saffron picking carried out by Dean, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir, marking the beginning of saffron harvesting at the FoA Wadura.
The event proved highly informative and inspiring, bridging- up the gap between research and practical adoption of niche crops to promote them among farming communities in the region.

​ Faculty of Agriculture SKUAST-K Wadura , proudly announced today the successful completion and operationalization of the macadamization project for ts internal Avenue campus road. This significant infrastructural upgrade marks a major step forward in the overall development and modernization of the campus facilities, directly benefiting students, faculty, and administrative staff.
​The initiative, now realized, is a direct reflection of the long-term vision of the 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙉𝙖𝙯𝙞𝙧 𝘼 𝙂𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙚, 𝙃𝙤𝙣'𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙑𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙧, 𝙎𝙆𝙐𝘼𝙎𝙏-𝙆 whose commitment to enhancing the physical and academic environment across all university campuses has been the driving force behind this and several other developmental projects.

​Wadura (17-Oct-2025) – The Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, is currently hosting the prestigious Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Sports Week, an initiative celebrating sportsmanship and physical excellence across the campus. Today, October 17, 2025, marked the third consecutive day of thrilling competition and collegiate camaraderie.
​The week-long event was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, October 15, 2025, in a distinguished ceremony that coincided with the maiden visit of the 𝙃𝙤𝙣'𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚, 𝙅𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙗 𝙅𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙙 𝘼𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙙 𝘿𝙖𝙧 to the faculty. The event was jointly inaugurated by the 𝙃𝙤𝙣'𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚, 𝙅𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙗 𝙅𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙙 𝘼𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙙 𝘿𝙖𝙧, alongside , 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛. 𝙉𝙖𝙯𝙞𝙧 𝘼 𝙂𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙚, 𝙃𝙤𝙣'𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙑𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙧, 𝙎𝙆𝙐𝘼𝙎𝙏-𝙆 underscoring the vital importance of sports and extracurricular activities within the university’s academic framework. The presence of both dignitaries set an encouraging and high-spirited tone for the entire sports week.
​Today’s action centered on Match No. 2 of the VC Cup at the Wadura Campus cricket ground. The match featured an intense contest between the 2nd Year and 3rd Year student teams.
​The 2nd Year team delivered a standout performance, showcasing superior intent, strategic balance, and smart ex*****on throughout the game. Their formidable all-round effort culminated in a decisive victory, defeating the 3rd Year team by a margin of 34 runs. The result reflects the rigorous training and teamwork put in by the winning squad.
​The match was officially kickstarted by Prof. Shakeel A Mir, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, who remained engaged throughout the play and offered warm congratulations and applause to the winning 2nd Year team.
​Reflecting on the overarching purpose of the event, Prof. S A Mir reaffirmed the institution's philosophy, stating that the "legacy of VC Sports Week is a clear testament to the commitment of SKUAST-K to building sports calibers along with Agri. Education." The statement emphasizes the university's dedication to nurturing well-rounded graduates capable of excelling both in the field of agriculture and beyond.

03-Days Training Programme on “Millet Production and Value Addition Packages” Concludes at Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, SKUAST-K

Under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Project No. 08 (Millets), the Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), successfully organized a three-day training programme on “Millet Production and Value Addition Packages” from 14–16 October, 2025. The programme was aimed at enhancing the technical competence of Scientists of SKUAST-K, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and officers of field functionaries from Agriculture and Allied Departments on scientific millet production, processing, and value addition techniques. The valedictory session began with a welcome address by Dr. Lal Singh (Course Director), Professor, Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of millets as climate-resilient, resource-efficient, and nutritionally rich crops that can play a significant role in achieving food and nutritional security. He emphasized the need for interdepartmental coordination to promote millet-based farming systems and entrepreneurial ventures in value addition.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Akhilesh Chandra Singh, Professor & Head, Division of Agronomy, KA PG College, Prayagraj in his address, elaborated on the national and global perspectives of millet promotion, highlighting the International Year of Millets (2023) as a turning point in mainstreaming these crops. He discussed various improved agronomic practices, integrated nutrient management, and post-harvest technologies crucial for maximizing yield and profitability in millet cultivation especially in Sorghum.
The Chief Guest of the valedictory session, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, in his address, appreciated the efforts under HADP Project No. 08 for popularizing millet cultivation across Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that millets not only ensure better health outcomes but also offer sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers, particularly in rainfed areas. He urged participants to transfer the technical knowledge gained during the training to the farming community for achieving greater impact on the ground.
The training comprised a series of expert lectures, practical demonstrations, and interactive sessions covering diverse topics such as improved varieties of millets, soil and nutrient management, pest and disease management, processing and value addition, branding, and marketing of millet-based products. Participants actively engaged in discussions on developing millet value chains and promoting local entrepreneurship through product diversification.
During the valedictory session, participants expressed appreciation for SKUAST-K and the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, for organizing such a knowledge-rich and interactive training programme. They acknowledged that the exposure to millet field and value addition methods would significantly enhance their capacity to support millet promotion in their respective regions.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Raies Ahmad Bhat, Asstt. Prof. Division of Agronomy, who acknowledged the support of the University authorities, resource persons, and participants for their active involvement. Certificates of participation were distributed to all participants by Chief Guest, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir, Dean, FoA, Wadura.
The Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, reaffirmed its commitment to continue conducting such capacity-building programmes under HADP to promote climate-smart, nutrition-sensitive, and sustainable agricultural practices across the Union Territory.
