Sheikh Muneer Urges LG to Protect Rights of Private School Teachers, Calls for Fair Wages and Dignified Working Conditions

Social and political activist Sheikh Muneer has urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to take concrete measures to safeguard the rights and welfare of private school teachers across Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that educators deserve fair wages, job security, timely salaries and a dignified working environment.

In a statement, Muneer said private school teachers are making a significant contribution to the education sector despite facing several challenges. He noted that many teachers work for long hours, shoulder heavy academic responsibilities and play a vital role in shaping the future of students, yet their financial and professional concerns often remain unaddressed.

Muneer appealed to the administration to strengthen the implementation of existing rules and ensure that private educational institutions provide teachers with salaries that are fair and commensurate with their qualifications, experience and workload. He also called for strict monitoring to prevent delays in salary payments and other forms of exploitation.

“Teachers are the foundation of a strong and educated society. Their contribution cannot be measured only in terms of classroom hours. They are responsible for building the knowledge, character and confidence of our children. Therefore, their rights, dignity and financial security must be protected,” Muneer said.

He also urged private school managements to maintain transparency in recruitment, appointment letters, salary structures, working hours and leave policies. He emphasized that teachers should have an accessible mechanism to raise genuine grievances without fear of discrimination or victimisation.

Muneer further called upon the concerned departments to conduct regular inspections of private educational institutions and ensure compliance with applicable labour and education norms.

He expressed hope that the Lieutenant Governor’s administration would consider the genuine concerns of private school teachers and take meaningful steps towards creating a fairer, more transparent and supportive education system. He said empowering teachers would ultimately strengthen schools, improve the quality of education and secure a brighter future for students across Jammu and Kashmir.

In continuation of its public outreach and grievance redressal initiatives, Sopore Police today organised Thana Diwas at Police Station Dangiwacha and Police Station Panzalla.

The programme was aimed at providing a platform for direct interaction between the police and the public, enabling citizens to raise their grievances, share suggestions and discuss issues of local concern for timely and transparent redressal.

At both police stations, the meetings witnessed participation from respectable citizens, civil society members, traders, Auqaf members, Numberdars, Chowkidars, youth representatives and residents from the respective areas.

During the interaction, participants raised various issues concerning law and order, public safety, drug abuse, traffic management, verification and other local matters. The grievances were heard patiently, and participants were assured that all issues falling within the jurisdiction of the police would be addressed on priority, while matters relating to other departments would be taken up with the concerned authorities.

The participants were also urged to extend their cooperation in maintaining peace and harmony, combating the drug menace and promptly sharing information regarding anti-social and criminal activities.

We strongly condemn the reported statement attributed to :

"If migrant labourers do not come to Kashmir, Kashmiris will die of hunger."

Such a statement is deeply hurtful and offensive to the people of Kashmir. It undermines the dignity, hard work, and self-respect of the Kashmiri people and hurts their sentiments.

We demand that Mr. Vikram Randhawa publicly apologize to the people of Kashmir for making such an irresponsible and insensitive remark.

At the same time, it must also be recognized that if Kashmiris stop providing employment opportunities to non-local workers, many of them would also struggle to earn their livelihood. Respect should be mutual, and no community should be insulted or portrayed as incapable of sustaining itself.

Public representatives must exercise responsibility in their statements and avoid comments that create division or offend the sentiments of any community. We call for respectful dialogue and mutual understanding among all citizens.

Sheikh Muneer Calls for Trust, Transparency, and Inclusive Governance to Strengthen Public Confidence in Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug. 1: Social and political activist Sheikh Muneer has emphasized that the relationship between the government and the people is strongest when it is built on trust, accountability, fairness, and meaningful public participation. He said that in a region like Jammu & Kashmir, which has witnessed decades of conflict, political change, and uncertainty, rebuilding public trust requires consistent, transparent, and people-centric governance.

Sheikh Muneer said that one of the most effective ways to strengthen public confidence is by listening to people's concerns through regular public consultations, village meetings, and constructive engagement with youth, women, traders, farmers, teachers, civil society organizations, and community leaders. He stressed that an efficient and transparent grievance redressal system with fixed timelines would further enhance people's faith in public institutions.

Highlighting the importance of good governance, he said that trust grows when public services are transparent, free from corruption, fair, and non-discriminatory. He added that quality education, accessible healthcare, reliable electricity, improved roads, and accountable public institutions are essential for strengthening the bond between citizens and the government.

Baramulla, July 31: Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) District President Women's Wing Baramulla and former DDC, Er. Razia Hassan, has strongly condemned the shocking and inhuman incident at Jal Sheeri, Baramulla, in which an innocent girl was allegedly subjected to a heinous act of r**e.

Describing the incident as barbaric and a blot on the moral fabric of society, Er. Razia said such crimes are completely alien to the cultural ethos and values of Kashmir, a land historically known for its respect, dignity and honour of women. She said those responsible deserve no sympathy and must be awarded the harshest punishment under the law so that such crimes are never be repeated.

She said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stands firmly with the victim and her family in this hour of grief and trauma and demands the strictest possible punishment for all those involved in this heinous crime. She asserted that no one, irrespective of influence or status, should be allowed to escape the law.

Er. Razia demanded swift justice for the victim and her family, stating that justice delayed would only deepen the pain and suffering of the innocent.

She appreciated the prompt, transparent and professional action taken by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla S.Gurwinder Singh IAS, Dy.SP and the Station House Officer (SHO) Baramulla in handling the case. She expressed hope that the investigation would be carried out impartially and culminate in exemplary punishment for the accused.

Appealing to the people of Jammu & Kashmir, social organisations, political parties, religious leaders and civil society to rise above all differences, Er. Razia called for a united campaign against such heinous crimes. She said protecting the dignity and safety of women and girls is a collective responsibility that demands the participation of every section of society.

"We must create an atmosphere where every daughter feels safe, respected and protected. Crimes against women are an attack on the conscience of society and must be met with zero tolerance," she said.

Er. Razia reiterated that no influence or pressure should be allowed to obstruct the course of justice and urged the authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice at the earliest.

Sheikh Muneer Urges DSEK to Implement TET Across Kashmir in Line with Supreme Court Ruling

Srinagar, 29 July:- Social and political activist Sheikh Muneer has called for the implementation of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) across Jammu and Kashmir following the Supreme Court's recent directions, stressing the need to strengthen the quality of school education.

Social and political activist Sheikh Muneer has urged the Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) to immediately initiate the implementation of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) across Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the recent directions of the Supreme Court of India.

Referring to the apex court's judgment, Sheikh Muneer said that qualifying the TET has now become mandatory for all in-service and aspiring teachers of Classes 1 to 8 in non-minority schools. He said the decision is a significant step towards improving the quality of education and ensuring that every child receives instruction from professionally qualified teachers.

He noted that the Supreme Court has fixed August 31, 2028, as the final deadline for eligible in-service teachers to qualify the TET. Teachers with more than five years of service remaining before retirement must clear the examination to continue in service and become eligible for promotions. Those with five years or less remaining before retirement have been exempted from the requirement for continuation in service, although TET may still be necessary for promotional benefits.

Sheikh Muneer appealed to the School Education Department to begin preparations without delay by announcing a clear roadmap for conducting TET examinations, creating awareness among teachers, and providing adequate training and academic support to help them qualify.

He said timely implementation of the Supreme Court's directions would enhance the standard of education, improve teaching quality, and ensure that Jammu and Kashmir remains fully compliant with national educational norms. He also urged the authorities to protect the interests of teachers by providing sufficient opportunities and institutional support before the deadline.

"The future of our students depends on the quality of our teachers. Implementing the TET in a transparent and timely manner will strengthen the education system and benefit both teachers and students across Jammu and Kashmir," Sheikh Muneer said.
