This year’s edition saw over 1,100 runners from 27 States and Union Territories of India, along with 77 foreign participants from 11 countries, underscoring Kashmir’s emergence as a premier destination for sports and adventure tourism.

Truth hurts NC, effigy burning proves NC’s political insecurity and failure: BJP

Jammu, 01 November 2025:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu & Kashmir lambasted the National Conference (NC) for “turning the day into a black day of frustration,” after its workers resorted to burning effigies of the Leader of Opposition.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, BJP Spokesperson Dr. Abhijeet Singh Jasrotia along with BJP Media Incharge Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, termed it “historic and ironic” that a ruling party should stoop to burning effigies of the Opposition, something unheard of in a democracy.
Dr. Jasrotia said that this episode shows NC’s nervousness and political insecurity. He said that usually, opposition parties protest against governments, but in Jammu and Kashmir, it is the ruling party’s workers who are burning effigies of the Opposition leader. This only proves that the truth spoken by the Leader of Opposition has hit them where it hurts the most, he said.
Dr. Abhijeet accused the NC of indulging in diversionary tactics to cover up its corruption and governance failures. He said that NC is frustrated because the Leader of Opposition has exposed its malpractices. This effigy-burning drama is merely a desperate attempt to distract people from their own corruption and incompetence, he said.
Dr. Abhijeet also criticized the government for promoting “single business dominance at the cost of others,” stressing that the Chief Minister is shielding “a few blue-eyed favourites” while ignoring the interests of others. He demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged corrupt practices, stating that “those in power must be held accountable for looting public resources.”
Taking a jibe at the ruling dispensation, he remarked, “The Chief Minister seems to be telling the Deputy CM, ‘Tum corruption karte raho, hum tumhare saath hain.’”
Dr. Abhijeet Jasrotia further said that the NC’s manifesto has now become “a book of lies” which the party regrets having written, as it has failed to deliver on its tall promises. The people of Jammu and Kashmir can clearly see who is raising their voice for public issues and who is busy in street dramas, he asserted.
Dr. Abhijeet Jasrotia said that the Leader of Opposition stands firm, fearless, and unwavering, speaking truth to power and representing the real aspirations of the people that this government has chosen to ignore.

*CM Omar questions irregularities in 2014 flood relief; Calls for accountability*

Raja Syed Rather

Srinagar, Nov 01 (KNO): Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday questioned the alleged irregularities in the utilization of 2014 flood relief funds and asked the government to make public details of World Bank-funded flood protection projects.

Addressing a gathering in Srinagar, Omar, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that despite repeated assurances, no major flood-mitigation measures were taken after the devastating 2014 deluge. “Tell us what immediate steps were taken to protect Srinagar from floods after 2014? What project was built? Where did the money we secured from the World Bank go?” he asked.

He sought details of dredging works in River Jhelum and Flood Spill Channel, and asked who was responsible for handling the funds. “Who embezzled money meant for dredging of Jhelum and Wular projects?” he questioned, adding that PDP and BJP-led government must be held accountable.

Referring to recent heavy rains in Srinagar, Omar said the city was on the verge of flooding again. “It didn’t even rain for two days, and the embankments started giving way. If it had rained 24 hours more, Srinagar would have drowned,” he said.

On traffic congestion along the Boulevard stretch near Dal Lake, Omar said the administration is exploring the construction of a tunnel between Dal Gate and Nehru Park. “We will seek central assistance. If tunnels can be built in Jammu, Poonch and Kishtwar, why not in the heart of Srinagar?” he added.

Reiterating his government's commitment to public welfare, he highlighted schemes like free bus rides for women and stated that his administration does not discriminate on religious or regional basis. “We work for rights, not religion, caste or community. Our intention is honest and we will fulfill our promises,” he said—(KNO)
