Shock in Kashmir Valley: New Help Poor Chemists Accused of Cheating Patients, and Pushing Fake Discounts.

Srinagar Dec 25 ( CNS) Outrage is spreading across the Kashmir Valley as patients from Srinagar, Budgam,Bandipora Anantnag, Pulwama, Baramulla, Ganderbal, and Kupwara allege that New Help Poor Chemists is exploiting sick and vulnerable people.
Patients claim the shop forces them to buy full strips of medicines, even when only a few tablets are prescribed, putting enormous financial pressure on poor and middle-class families.
Adding to the anger, customers allege that the shop promises discounts of up to 30 percent, but at the time of billing, the discounts are slashed or denied, leaving patients feeling cheated. Several residents spoke out, including GH Rasool, Shanaza Shafi, Ab Ahad Khan, and Mumtaza Begam, who shared their personal experiences.“We were forced to buy full strips for medicines we only partially needed,” said GH Rasool. Shanaza Shafi added, “The promised discount of 30 percent was suddenly reduced at billing time without explanation.” Ab Ahad Khan and Mumtaza Begam also raised concerns over the poor quality of medicines, reporting near-expiry or improperly stored drugs that failed to work effectively.
Residents and patients are now appealing to the Drug Controller Kashmir and other concerned departments to take immediate action against such practices. They have urged that regular inspections and strict monitoring of medical shops like New Help Poor Chemists be conducted to ensure compliance with medicine sale norms, quality control, pricing transparency, and ethical conduct.
Public voices across the Valley insist “Sick people should not be treated as cash cows, calling for urgent accountability and enforcement of strict medical regulations to protect patients from exploitation.(CNS)

Er Rashid Writes to CMs of Uttarakhand, Himachal Over Attacks on Kashmiri Shawl Sellers

New Delhi, Dec 25, CNS : Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Thursday said that Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid has written two detailed and strongly worded letters to the Chief Ministers of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, seeking immediate and stern action against those involved in assaults and humiliation of Kashmiri shawl sellers in their states. He said the letters have reached the party through the legal counsel of Er Rashid.

Inam Un Nabi said that in his letter to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jailed MP Er Rashid expressed deep anguish over television visuals showing Kashmiri shawl sellers being assaulted and humiliated by fringe elements. Er Rashid wrote that Himachal Pradesh is widely known for its tolerant and secular ethos and such incidents seriously tarnish that reputation. He questioned whether similar acts against non-Kashmiris in Jammu and Kashmir would have been treated with such silence, stating that in Kashmir, perpetrators would have been booked under stringent laws and branded extremists. Er Rashid warned that repeated inaction raises serious questions about claims of inclusiveness and secularism and hurts the self-respect not only of the victims but of the entire people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Referring to his letter to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Inam Un Nabi said Er Rashid described the assault on a Kashmiri shawl seller from his constituency as painful and deeply disturbing. In the letter, Er Rashid asked bluntly whether being Kashmiri has become a crime in the country. He reminded the Uttarakhand government that Kashmiris have a proud record of treating tourists and outsiders with honour and dignity, and questioned why similar values were not being upheld elsewhere. He cautioned that selective silence and weak responses embolden goons and normalize lawlessness.

In both letters, Jailed MP Er Rashid categorically demanded strict and exemplary action against the culprits so that no one dares to take the law into their own hands in the name of ultra-nationalism. He also urged the state governments to ensure the safety, dignity and livelihood of Kashmiri traders working outside Jammu and Kashmir. Copies of the letters, he added, have also been marked to the Union Home Secretary, seeking intervention to safeguard Kashmiris studying or earning their livelihood across the country. (CNS)

Year Ender: 2025 unfolded as a period of mixed outcomes for Jammu and Kashmir.

CNS Correspondent

Srinagar, Dec 31, CNS: The year 2025 unfolded as a period of mixed outcomes for Jammu and Kashmir, marked by continued security management, infrastructure expansion, public safety concerns and recurring debates over civil rights and livelihoods. While authorities pushed development projects and policy reforms, ordinary inhabitants continued to grapple with issues related to employment, road safety, land use, and social security.

Public safety remained a major concern throughout the year, with road accidents claiming hundreds of lives across highways and urban centres. The notification of new road safety frameworks reflected official acknowledgment of the crisis, though implementation on the ground remained uneven. Traffic enforcement improved in certain districts, yet reckless driving and poor road engineering continued to pose serious risks.

On the security front, 2025 saw relative stability compared to earlier years, though isolated militant incidents, encounters and recovery operations continued, particularly in south Kashmir and parts of Jammu division. Security forces maintained heightened vigilance, while political discourse increasingly focused on civil liberties, detentions and democratic participation.

Economically, agriculture and horticulture remained the backbone of Kashmir’s economy, but orchardists expressed concern over land acquisition, erratic weather patterns and market access. In urban areas, small traders and daily wage earners faced uncertainty, especially amid reports of harassment of Kashmiri workers and shawl sellers outside the region, sparking political and civil responses.

Infrastructure development, including road widening, railway projects and housing schemes, moved ahead in several districts, often triggering resistance from inhabitants over land and livelihood loss. Calls for public consultation and humane ex*****on of projects gained momentum during the year.

Socially, education, healthcare access and youth employment dominated public discourse. While new initiatives were announced, challenges related to quality implementation and outreach persisted.

As 2025 concludes, Jammu and Kashmir stands at a crossroads where governance outcomes will increasingly be judged by how effectively development is balanced with dignity, safety and inclusion of locals. (CNS)

AIP to Take Up Pulwama-Shopian Railway Alignment Issue With Union Railway Minister

Srinagar, Dec 25, CNS: Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Thursday expressed serious concern over the issues raised by residents of Babhara Kakapora, Naman, Monghama, Kangan, Ticken, Bellow, Nikas, Keegam, Nazneenpora, Trenz and adjoining areas in Pulwama and Shopian districts, who staged a peaceful protest against the proposed railway line passing through their area.

Inam Un Nabi said that AIP is not opposed to development, but emphasised that development must not come at the cost of snatching livelihoods, destroying apple orchards and fertile agricultural land or causing irreversible environmental damage. He said the concerns of farmers and orchardists regarding loss of land and income are genuine and cannot be brushed aside.

Urging the authorities to reconsider the alignment of the railway line, Inam Un Nabi called for exploration of alternative routes that minimise damage to orchards and farmlands. He also stressed the need for meaningful public consultation with affected residents before proceeding further with the project.

The AIP Chief Spokesperson announced that the party will take up the matter with the Union Railway Minister, seeking intervention to ensure that development proceeds in a manner that is fair, sustainable and sensitive to local livelihoods. He said AIP will continue to stand with the affected residents and pursue the issue at appropriate forums until a just and balanced solution is reached. (CNS)
