Delegation of Prominent Civil Society Members Visits Achan Srinagar; Led by Prof. Saifuddin Soz

Srinagar, November 8:
A delegation comprising prominent members of the Kashmir Civil Society today visited Achan Srinagar to take stock of the situation arising from the inadequate waste management in the area. The delegation was led by Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Former Union Minister of Environment and Forests.

During the visit, Prof. Soz and the accompanying members expressed serious concern over the unbearable stench emanating from the site, terming it a result of half-hearted and ineffective waste management measures by the authorities.

The delegation also highlighted the growing menace of stray dogs across Srinagar, which they said poses a serious threat to public safety and hygiene. They urged the concerned departments to take immediate corrective measures to ensure proper waste disposal, scientific management of the landfill, and effective control of the stray dog population.

The members reiterated the need for sustainable and environment-friendly waste management policies to safeguard the health and well-being of the people of Srinagar.

Infiltration Attempt Foiled Along LoC in Keran Sector, Gunfight Underway

Kupwara, Nov 08 (KNC): Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir launched a joint operation in the Keran sector of Kupwara district on Friday late night following specific intelligence inputs about an infiltration attempt from the Line of Control (LoC).

Officials told news agency Kashmir News Agency — (KNC) that alert troops noticed suspicious movement near the LoC and challenged the individuals, who responded with heavy gunfire. The security forces retaliated, triggering a gunfight.

Contact has been established, and the infiltrators are reportedly trapped. The operation is still underway, they added.

Kulgam Police Conducts Inspection of SIM Card Vendors Across District

Kulgam, Nov 7:In a continued effort to curb the misuse of SIM cards and ensure strict compliance with Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) guidelines, Kulgam Police on Friday conducted a special drive to inspect SIM card vendors across the district, he said.

In Devsar, the drive was led by SHO kulgam Subzar ahmad under the supervision of SSP.

During the inspection, teams thoroughly verified documentation processes, customer verification records, and adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) norms. Vendors were also sensitized about the significance of proper verification of applicants prior to issuing SIM cards to prevent potential misuse for unlawful activities, he added.

Senior police official stressed that strict action will be initiated against vendors found violating norms or issuing SIM cards without proper documentation.

Police further urged the public to obtain mobile connections only from authorized dealers and report any suspicious activity related to SIM card issuance.

This drive forms part of Kulgam Police’s ongoing campaign to strengthen digital security and curb cyber-related crimes in the district, he further added.
