Urges Self-Accountability, Compassion and Social Responsibility

Srinagar, October 2, 2026: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq, in his Friday address at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar, spoke about the reality of death, accountability in the Hereafter and the need for people to reflect on how they live their lives and fulfil their responsibilities towards others.

Mirwaiz said that remembrance of death should not lead to fear or despair, but should encourage humility, self-correction and a greater sense of responsibility. He urged people to examine their conduct, make amends where they had wronged others, fulfil the rights of family members and fellow human beings, and avoid hatred, jealousy, bitterness and unnecessary disputes.

Expressing concern over growing materialism and weakening social bonds, he said that people often become so consumed by worldly pursuits that relationships, compassion and concern for others are pushed aside. He stressed that wealth, status and position are temporary, while a person’s character, conduct and treatment of others have lasting significance.

Mirwaiz particularly called upon people to resolve family disputes, strengthen ties with parents and relatives, help the poor and vulnerable, and seek forgiveness from those whose rights may have been violated.

He said that society can become healthier and more compassionate when individuals develop the habit of self-accountability and understand that every action carries responsibility and consequence.

Srinagar, Oct 1 : Police on Thursday said it has busted a well-established narcotics module operating from Downtown Srinagar, arresting eight persons and recovering Rs 90 lakh cash, about one kilogram gold, jewellery and a pistol. Addressing a press conference, SSP Srinagar Sandeep Chakravarty, as per GNS said the module was busted by M R Gunj Police with assistance of Punjab Police and raids were conducted in Chandigarh and Ambala besides several locations in Srinagar.Among those arrested is Waseem Zargar, officials said, adding that the accused have different links and connections which are being investigated.During searches, police recovered approximately Rs 90 lakh cash, around one kilogram of gold, gold coins, jewellery and a pistol from lockers and other locations used by the accused for storing illegal items, officials said.Giving details of modus operandi, SSP said the network was bringing illegal drugs from outside the State to Kashmir and it is not a normal case but a well-established network. Raids are also going on at pharmaceutical companies outside J&K, he said.”It is a well established network. There were raids in Chandigarh, Ambala by M R Gunj Police. We are thankful to Punjab Police for their cooperation. There is raid going on at pharmaceutical companies there. We will not spare anyone when it comes to drug abuse,” SSP Srinagar said.Police said further investigation is underway to establish the complete network and identify forward and backward linkages, and more arrests are likely.
