Class 3rd Girl at Convent School Allegedly Beaten, Weeks After Harvard Case
Ayaat’s Case Sparks Fresh Outcry Over Student Safety in Schools, Education Dept Initiates Inquiry After Corporal Punishment Allegations Surface in Srinagar School

Srinagar, June 12 (KB) : Just weeks after the tragic case at Kashmir Harvard School, another disturbing incident has surfaced at Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School, where a Class 3rd student, Ayaat Altaf, daughter of Mohammad Altaf Dar, was allegedly subjected to severe corporal punishment by her teachers, leading to serious health complications.

As per the details available with Kashmir Bulletin, Ayaat was reportedly beaten within the school premises, yet no immediate medical attention was provided. Her parents were informed late, and upon arrival, they found her vomiting, unconscious, and unable to open her eyes. Doctors at JVC hospital advised a CT scan, but due to the unavailability of CT scan services, her treatment has been delayed.

Ayaat’s father, Mohammad Altaf Dar, voiced his distress, stating, “She arrived home weak, barely responsive, struggling to open her eyes. No parent should ever witness their child in such a condition.” He also raised concerns about the school’s delay in notifying him and the lack of prompt medical care.

This incident comes just weeks after the su***de of 14-year-old Numan Sofi, a student at Kashmir Harvard School, which raised concerns about student well-being and mental health in private schools.

However, The management of Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School, Srinagar, has denied allegations of corporal punishment, asserting that the student was not subjected to any physical harm by the teacher.

In an official statement, the school clarified that Ayaat Altaf, a Class 3 student, had complained of a headache during the 7th period. According to the school, her class teacher promptly escorted her to the health room, and her parents were informed at 2 PM. Upon receiving the call, her parent advised giving her a tablet, citing her history of migraine.

The school maintains that the incident was purely a health issue, and not a case of misconduct by the teachers. However, the situation continues to raise concerns, with many demanding a thorough investigation.
