Srinagar, November 8:
A delegation comprising prominent members of the Kashmir Civil Society today visited Achan Srinagar to take stock of the situation arising from the inadequate waste management in the area. The delegation was led by Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Former Union Minister of Environment and Forests.
During the visit, Prof. Soz and the accompanying members expressed serious concern over the unbearable stench emanating from the site, terming it a result of half-hearted and ineffective waste management measures by the authorities.
The delegation also highlighted the growing menace of stray dogs across Srinagar, which they said poses a serious threat to public safety and hygiene. They urged the concerned departments to take immediate corrective measures to ensure proper waste disposal, scientific management of the landfill, and effective control of the stray dog population.
The members reiterated the need for sustainable and environment-friendly waste management policies to safeguard the health and well-being of the people of Srinagar.
