*Grand M***i Nasir-ul-Islam Condemns Pahalgam Incident, Calls for Unity and Protection of Kashmiri Identity*

*Calls for Justice, Unity, and Responsible Media Amidst Rising Concerns Over Violence and Communal Tensions*

Waris Nissar

Srinagar, Apr 24 (PP): Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, the Grand M***i of Jammu and Kashmir, has strongly condemned the tragic Pahalgam incident, describing it as an assault on humanity. He called for introspection, unity, and the safeguarding of Kashmiri values amidst growing concerns over the implications of such violent acts.

Addressing the recent tragedy, M***i Nasir, as per the news agency Prism Post (PP), stated, “This incident is a moment of reflection for humanity. The killing of an innocent individual is akin to the killing of humanity itself. The loss of lives and the injury to innocent people in such acts of violence are intolerable.” He criticized the lack of accountability and called for justice to prevail.

The Grand M***i expressed solidarity with the families affected by the tragedy, extending his condolences and condemning those who perpetuate violence. He reaffirmed that such acts are against the principles of humanity and Kashmiri culture, which is rooted in compassion and harmony.

Calling for an end to communal tensions, he emphasized that the ongoing targeting of Kashmiri tourists and pilgrims in the aftermath of such incidents undermines the spirit of unity and humanity. “Kashmiris welcome all visitors with open arms, and any attempts to harm them tarnish the image of Kashmiri hospitality,” he said.

M***i Nasir also criticized the misuse of technology to spread hatred and misinformation, urging authorities to take strict measures to prevent such divisive activities. He appealed to religious leaders to use their platforms to promote peace and denounce violence unequivocally.

Furthermore, he urged the government and security agencies to prioritize the safety and well-being of all citizens, including tourists and pilgrims, ensuring that incidents like the Pahalgam tragedy are not repeated.

As a concluding message, the Grand M***i reminded everyone of the peaceful essence of Islam, emphasizing that no religion condones violence or its perpetrators. He called on media outlets to act responsibly and avoid fueling divisions through misleading narratives.

M***i Nasir’s statement serves as a reminder of the urgent need for collective efforts to restore harmony and uphold the values of humanity and Kashmiri identity in the face of such challenges. (PP)

Groom walks 7 kilometres to wedding after flash floods shut Jammu-Srinagar highway

With flash floods cutting off National Highway 44 in Jammu Kashmir, a groom, Hashkhor Ahmad, walked over 7 km to reach his wedding venue.

“I am getting married and now we have to walk. We left at 6 am, parked the cars nearby, and continued on foot,” he told ANI.

Ahmad said if the road remains blocked, he’ll return on foot with his bride. “If the road isn’t fixed, we’ll walk again. I urge the government to clear NH44. Many people, including children, are stranded.”

Union Minister Jitendra Singh praised the Army for setting up medical aid camps and distributing food and water.

Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors and avoid the highway. Schools in the region remain shut. Three people, including two children, have died due to landslides.

*Jammu-Srinagar Highway remains closed, restoration work may take 6 days*

Ramban — The landslide-hit Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for a second day on Monday, with a senior NHAI official saying the road clearance operation, underway at 20 locations, was likely to take about six days.

Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on the strategic 250-kilometre highway -- the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country -- on Sunday after heavy rainfall and cloudbursts triggered flash floods, landslides and mudslides in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district.

Three persons, including two minor siblings, were killed and more than 100 people were rescued as the natural calamity caused massive damage to infrastructure, including roads and residential buildings. A number of vehicles were also buried under the debris.

"We are faced with a challenging situation due to massive deposits of muck on the highway at more than a dozen places, especially on the four-kilometre stretch between Seri and Maroog. The height of the sludge at some places is more than 20 feet," National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) project director Purshottam Kumar said.

The agency's major machinery, including earth movers, are buried under the debris, he added.

"Despite limited available resources of our own, we have arranged machinery from private contractors and deployed those at 20 affected locations simultaneously to speed up the restoration work," he said, expressing satisfaction at the improved weather condition after two days of heavy rain.

However, Kumar said the highway was likely to take five to six days to reopen for traffic.

The highway has suffered major damages near Panthiyal and Kela Morh, he added.

Meanwhile, stranded commuters, including two newlywed couples, were seen moving on foot to reach their destinations.

"The road is destroyed (at a number of places). The situation is very bad," Rajasthan native Devi Lal, who is heading home from the Magam area of central Kashmir's Budgam district, told PTI Videos in Ramban.

Accompanied by other members of his community, including women and children, Lal said they were walking to cross the problematic stretches before boarding a bus to Jammu.

Jamna, who was carrying a minor child on her shoulders, said stones and boulders were still coming down the hills overlooking the highway and added that the situation was frightening.

"We have not taken meals for the past two days," she said as the group made their way to Udhampur. Dressed in their wedding attire, Zahir Ahmad and Zaheera Bano were expecting a smooth ride into their new life together but it turned into an unforgettable journey as the newlywed couple had to walk from the bride's Chenani home to the groom's residence in Ramban.

"It was tiring but, in a way, it made the day even more special," said Ahmad, adding he wanted no other person to experience such an ordeal. — (PTI)
