Sunil Sharma Blames NC, Congress for Turmoil in J&K, Says Peace Restored Under BJP Rule
Jammu, Oct 8, CNS: Leader of Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir and senior BJP figure Sunil Sharma on Wednesday launched a strong attack on the National Conference (NC) and Congress, accusing the two parties of being responsible for the rise of militancy in the region and of continuing to mislead people for political gain.
Addressing a press conference, Sharma said militancy in Jammu and Kashmir first erupted during the regimes of the National Conference and Congress, adding that the BJP has since brought stability and peace. “During Omar Abdullah’s government, there were more than 7,000 incidents of law and order disturbance. During our administration, only 18 such incidents took place. That is the difference between their politics and our governance,” he said.
He said that today, schools are open, businesses are thriving, and people are living normal lives—something he credited to the BJP’s governance and security measures. “The NC leadership has always deceived the people of Kashmir by spreading hatred against the Centre. I request the people to view the BJP positively and not fall for the NC’s divisive politics,” Sharma said.
He remarked that Abdullah’s political position was a product of dynasty. “Omar Abdullah is Chief Minister only because he belongs to the Abdullah family. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Their politics is built on spreading lies about the Centre and exploiting people’s sentiments,” he alleged.
Sharma also accused the NC of hypocrisy, claiming that despite publicly denying power, the party continues to hold influence over the administration. “They say they are not in power, yet every file passes through their hands. Their lies have no limits. The campaign against the BJP and the Centre is merely a tactic to gain sympathy in the Budgam by-election,” he said, adding that the BJP does not attach much importance to the Budgam seat but will continue to raise genuine issues concerning the people.
He also criticized the NC for failing to deliver on the regularization of daily wagers and formation of reservation committees. “Not a single consolidated worker has been made permanent so far,” he said, while asserting that law and order under BJP rule remains peaceful compared to the NC’s tenure, when “children were blinded in the streets.”
Acknowledging political realities, Sharma admitted that the BJP may not secure all four Rajya Sabha seats but said the party’s focus remains on governance and accountability. He added that Ladakh’s situation is “completely normal” and that all issues would be addressed through dialogue. (CNS)
