Highway Closure Sparks Anxiety Among Aspirants for Nursing Officer Recruitment Test

Srinagar, Sep 9,
With the Srinagar-Jammu Highway remaining closed for several days, aspirants from Kashmir are voicing serious concerns over reaching their designated centres in Jammu for the upcoming Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET-9).

The examination, scheduled by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, is to be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025. The test is being conducted for the recruitment of Nursing Officer posts across AIIMS and other institutes.

A large number of candidates from the valley have been allotted examination centres in Jammu. However, the continued blockade of the vital highway link has left them anxious, as surface connectivity remains uncertain. Students fear that if the highway is not restored in time, many of them will be unable to appear for the crucial exam.

Candidates have appealed to the authorities to either shift their exam centres from Jammu to Kashmir or to arrange additional train services connecting the valley with Jammu to ensure their timely arrival. They argue that the situation, caused by circumstances beyond their control, should not put their academic and professional future at risk.

“The government must intervene urgently. Either centres should be relocated within Kashmir or special trains should be run to facilitate our travel. Otherwise, hundreds of careers will be jeopardised,” one group of aspirants told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

The NORCET-9 preliminary exam is scheduled for September 14, while the mains are set for September 27. With only a few days left, candidates are waiting anxiously for a response from the administration.

Those Who Disturbed Hazratbal Face No Action, But MLA Jailed Under PSA: CM Omar Abdullah

Says From July 13 to Now, administration keeps repeating mistakes against democracy

Srinagar, Sep 9 (KNC): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday questioned the rationale behind booking Doda MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA), saying the move was unjustified and damaging to democratic values.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Omar as per news agency Kashmir News Corner --- KNC said, “Can anyone tell me what exactly his fault is? Did he cause stone pelting? Did he disturb peace and order? The truth is, those who spoiled the atmosphere at Hazratbal and hurt people’s sentiments have not faced action, while an elected MLA is being dragged to police stations and interrogated.”

He added, “If there was any shortcoming on his part, it should have been addressed in the Assembly under the Speaker’s authority. But slapping PSA is completely wrong. It erodes the trust people have in democracy.”

Slamming administration over repeated disruptions Omar said that, “On July 13, several leaders were wrongly detained. On July 14, I myself was mistreated by the police. And now, detaining an MLA under PSA this is another mistake. Such steps are neither right nor healthy for a democracy.” (KNC)

PM to inaugurate top military comdrs’ conference on Sept 15; DM, NSA, CDS, 3 Service chiefs to attend

Situation along LAC with China, LoC with Pak to figure

J&K’s internal security situation also to be discussed

JAMMU, Sept 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate three-day conference of the top commanders of three Services at Kolkata on September 15 which will discuss situation along Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir, Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China and various aspects of Operation Sindoor carried out by the Indian Armed Forces from May 6-10 in the aftermath of April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.Kashmir handicrafts

The conference from September 15-17 will also be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary RK Singh, all three Service chiefs and top commanders of Army, Indian Air Force (IAF) and Navy.

Modi will interact with the top commanders after inaugurating the conference on September 15.
The theme for this year’s Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) is ‘Year of Reforms — Transforming for the Future’.

The top commanders will hold comprehensive review of security situation along LoC and hinterland in Jammu and Kashmir, LAC with China in Eastern Ladakh and other States as well as success achieves by the Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor.

Situation has been entirely peaceful along LAC including Eastern Ladakh but it remained volatile on the LoC with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir with infiltration attempts being observed and thwarted by the troops in Rajouri, Poonch, Uri and some other sectors.

“Internal security situation in Jammu and Kashmir will also come up for review during the meeting as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is set to takeover charge of anti-terror operations at some places,” the sources said.

The CRPF, whose additional battalions are being deployed in Jammu and Kashmir, will replace the Rashtriya Rifles in villages and hinterland of the Union Territory, once the proposal mooted by the MHA is matured.

Officials of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) are holding regular meetings on the issue to formalize the plan as need has been felt to further strengthen anti-infiltration measures on the LoC to ensure that the terrorists don’t manage to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir to carry out subversive activities.

Operation Sindoor will figure prominently during the deliberations of the top military commanders including the successes achieved. After April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians including 25 tourists and a local were killed, the Indian Armed Forces carried out Operation Sindoor from May 6-10 killing over 100 terrorists and their mentors and targeting military bases deep inside Pakistan and PoJK.

The CCC is the apex-level brainstorming forum of the Armed Forces that brings together the nation’s top civil and military leadership to exchange views at the conceptual and strategic levels.

Secretaries from other Ministries are also likely to be present in addition to officers from the three Services and Integrated Defence Staff.

“The CCC will focus on reforms, transformation and change and operational preparedness. Together, these reflect the armed forces’ commitment to institutional reforms, deeper integration and technological modernization, while sustaining a high level of multi-domain operational readiness,” an official statement issued by the Defence Ministry said.

It said the deliberations will seek to further strengthen the Armed Forces which are agile and decisive in an increasingly complex geo-strategic landscape.

“Continuing with the tradition of inclusive engagement, the conference will feature interactive sessions with officers and personnel of various ranks from the Armed Forces, ensuring that field-level perspectives enrich the discussions at the highest level,” the Ministry said in a statement.

Mehbooba M***i seeks action under 295-A against Waqf Board over Hazratbal plaque

Srinagar, Sept 6, KNT: PDP President Mehbooba M***i on Saturday demanded legal action against those responsible for installing the controversial inauguration plaque bearing the State Emblem inside the Hazratbal shrine, invoking Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code that deals with deliberate acts intended to outrage religious sentiments.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, the former chief minister said the move had deeply hurt the religious feelings of Muslims and those responsible should be booked under the law. “Instead of taking action against those who defaced the emblem out of religious sentiment, the government should lodge an FIR against the Waqf Board chairperson and members who allowed such an act. Hazratbal is a religious place, not a venue for coronation or political symbolism,” Mehbooba said.

She castigated Waqf Board Chairperson Darakhshan Andrabi for demanding PSA against those who vandalised the plaque. “Calling the Home Minister of India to slap PSA on locals is unacceptable. The real question is who permitted installation of the emblem in a shrine where there is no concept of idol worship,” she added.

Mehbooba maintained that successive governments had worked for the development of Hazratbal but had refrained from what she described as “unislamic practices.”

“This was not a BJP function. Unfortunately, the sanctity of Hazratbal was compromised in this manner,” she remarked. [KNT]

FIR registered over defacing of Ashoka Emblem at Hazratbal shrine

Srinagar, Sept 6, KNT: Police on Saturday registered an FIR in connection with the defacing of the Ashoka Emblem on an inauguration plaque recently installed inside the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar.

Officials said an FIR vide number 76/2025 has been lodged at Police Station Nigeen after scores of worshippers objected to the inscription of the emblem, calling it un-Islamic, and partially defaced it with a stone. The emblem was erased from the left side of the plaque while other portions remained intact.

The plaque had been installed on September 3 following the reconstruction and redevelopment of the shrine, which was formally inaugurated by Waqf Board Chairperson Darakhshan Andrabi. Her subsequent demand that those involved be booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) triggered strong reactions from across the political spectrum.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and PDP President Mehbooba M***i both condemned Andrabi’s remarks, with Mehbooba going further to demand that instead of acting against the worshippers, the government should book the Waqf Board chairperson and four of its members for “hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims.”

So far, no arrests have been made in the case while police said investigations are ongoing.

The incident has further deepened the row over the presence of the State Emblem at one of Kashmir’s holiest shrines, which many religious groups and political leaders argue was a breach of sanctity. [KNT]
