An Awareness-cum-Training Programme for Sheep Breeders was successfully organized today at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kupwara under the dynamic leadership of Head, KVK Kupwara, Dr. G. M. Bhat. The programme was conducted in collaboration with MRCSG Shuhama and the Division of Livestock Production & Technology (LPT), SKUAST-K, with the objective of strengthening scientific sheep farming practices and enhancing the livelihood opportunities of rural farmers.
The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with a large number of sheep breeders and farmers from various parts of Kupwara district actively participating in the programme. The gathering reflected the growing interest among farmers towards adopting improved and sustainable livestock management practices.
During the programme, scientists from the collaborating institutions delivered detailed and insightful lectures on key aspects of sheep husbandry, including breed improvement, scientific feeding and nutrition, disease prevention and control, housing management, and value addition of sheep products. Emphasis was also laid on modern technologies and innovations that can significantly improve productivity and profitability in sheep farming.
Officers from the Sheep Husbandry Department Kupwara were also present on the occasion and interacted with the farmers. They provided valuable field-level guidance, shared departmental schemes and support mechanisms, and addressed various queries raised by the participants regarding health care, vaccination, and management of sheep.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. G. M. Bhat highlighted the importance of integrating scientific knowledge with traditional practices to achieve better outcomes in livestock farming. He stressed that such awareness and training programmes play a crucial role in transferring technology from research institutions to the grassroots level. He further encouraged farmers to actively engage with extension services and adopt improved practices for enhancing their income and ensuring sustainable rural development.
The programme also included an interactive session where farmers actively participated, shared their experiences, and sought expert advice on challenges faced in sheep rearing. The experts provided practical and location-specific solutions, making the session highly beneficial for the participants.
The participants expressed satisfaction and appreciation for organizing such a comprehensive and informative programme.
The programme concluded on a positive note, reaffirming the commitment of KVK Kupwara and collaborating institutions hiii towards empowering farmers, promoting scientific livestock practices, and strengthening the rural economy of the region.
