Major Police Reshuffle Likely in J&K

Srinagar, Aug 27th (LoC World): A major overhaul of the Jammu and Kashmir Police hierarchy is in the offing, with several IPS officers due for inter-cadre movement, fresh postings and charge adjustments, sources said.

IGP Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Virdhi, also holding charge of IGP Armed Police Kashmir, is likely to be relieved shortly for his CRPF assignment. His departure is expected to trigger fresh appointments to the two key posts.

Meanwhile, DIGs Shakti Kumar Pathak, Mohd Haseeb Mughal, Sheikh Junaid Mehmood and Shahid Mehraj Rather have been elevated as IGPs, with Mughal and Rather awaiting fresh assignments.

IGP Abdul Jabbar has been transferred to J&K from the CBI, while DIG Vikas Gupta has been shifted to Goa.

Four SSP-rank officers, including SSP Pulwama Tanushree and SSP Rajouri Gaurav Sikarwar, have also been transferred out of J&K, while eight IPS officers posted to the J&K segment are yet to join.

Sources said the final rejig is likely after requisite clearances from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, with several crucial vacancies expected to be filled as part of the exercise. (LoC World)

Complete shutdown observed in Kishtwar over Minor's Death incident

Kishtwar, Aug 27: A complete shutdown is being observed in Kishtwar town and adjoining areas on Thursday after Sanatan Dharma Sabha and Majlis-e-Shura jointly called for a bandh over Minor's death case.

Officials told News Agency that all shops, business establishments and private institutions remained closed in Kishtwar town while public transport also remained largely off the roads, witnesses said.

The call for bandh has been supported by various social and religious organisations.

The bandh was called to demand swift justice for the minor girl and stern action against those involved in the heinous crime.

Members of both organisations have appealed to the administration for fast-track investigation and justice to the victim's family.

Pertinently, three more persons have been arrested so far in the case, taking the total number of arrests to five, SSP Kishtwar had told media.

Meanwhile, authorities have beefed up security arrangements and deployed additional police personnel at sensitive locations to maintain law and order and to prevent any untoward incident..
