Department of Youth Services and Sports Organizes Sports Activities Under "Sewa Parv 2025"

Srinagar, September 17, 2025: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), through its Zonal Physical Education Office in Hawal, has launched a series of sports activities as part of the ongoing "Sewa Parv 2025" celebrations.
These activities are being held across various sports disciplines, with a special emphasis on Sewa (service) and health & fitness. The initiative aims to promote physical well-being, community service, and active youth participation, aligning with the core themes of the Sewa Parv.
The Zonal Office has engaged students, local youth, and sports enthusiasts in events that not only encourage athletic skill but also foster a spirit of volunteerism and social responsibility.
Officials from DYSS stated that such programs play a crucial role in channeling the energy of young people towards positive and constructive goals, while also reinforcing the values of health, teamwork, and public service.
The activities will continue throughout the duration of the Sewa Parv, with more community-driven and fitness-focused events planned in the coming days.

BUDGAM, SEPTEMBER 17: To commemorate the launch of Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, AYUSH Health and Wellness Centre, Kenihama, under the guidance of District AYUSH Officer, Budgam Dr. Firdous Malik today organised series of health camps here.
The initiative is aimed to promote health and wellbeing of women, thereby strengthening families and communities as a whole.
A special outreach camp was held in local High school where female students actively participated, besides another camp was held at AYUSH Health & Wellness Centre, Kenihama which witnessed enthusiastic participation of women from the local community.
During the camps, free health check-ups for anaemia, hypertension, diabetes, thyroid disorders and other lifestyle-related conditions, along with awareness sessions on nutrition, menstrual hygiene, maternal and child health were held. Yoga, meditation and stress management demonstrations were also conducted to encourage holistic wellbeing, besides one-on-one counselling sessions were held on reproductive health, mental wellbeing and lifestyle modifications.
During these camps, free medicines were also distributed among the participants.
Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Nusrat Bashir, Medical Officer, AHWC Kenihama, emphasised that women’s health is the cornerstone of a healthy society. She highlighted the importance of regular health check-ups and preventive care for overall well being of an individual.
Dr. Nusrat further said that the program is part of a nationwide campaign that seeks to empower women through improved health outcomes, thereby contributing to stronger and healthier families.

The Lieutenant Governor dedicated the bridge to the people of Ramban. He expressed gratitude to the brave engineers of the Army who had worked tirelessly and under challenging conditions to build the Bailey Bridge.

This bridge underlines the fact that in times of need, the Indian Army always stands with the nation and its people, he added.

IUST Hosts Workshop on Earthquake Risk Mitigation and Management

Awantipora, Sept. 17: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) today organized a one-day training and capacity-building workshop on Earthquake Risk Mitigation and Management. The program was jointly conducted by the Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction (CDRR), Department of Civil Engineering, and Department of Architecture, IUST, in collaboration with the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR), Government of J&K.
The workshop featured an expert session by Er. Wajahat Dedmari, President of DW Engineering Inc., California, USA, who shared insights on earthquake-resistant design and strategies for risk reduction. The event was attended by the Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SoET), along with faculty and students from Civil Engineering and Architecture. Participants engaged in interactive discussions on preparedness, resilient infrastructure, and community safety measures, with a focus on building a disaster-resilient future for the region. The workshop was a part of the series of the workshops that the university is organizing in the area of disaster risk reduction.

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 17: The Leader of Opposition in J&K Legislative Assembly, Shri Sunil Sharma, today called on Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha and discussed several important issues affecting the people of Jammu Kashmir in the wake of recent natural calamities.
He apprised the Lieutenant Governor on important matters related to road connectivity, delivery of essential and health services across the Union Territory, particularly in areas cut off due to landslides and floods. He further put forth the issues of restoration of power and water supply in flood-hit and hilly regions, and increase in the financial support for affected families.
Shri Sunil Sharma also requested for the postponement of competitive examinations, including the JKPSC Lecturer recruitment and Munsiff examinations.

CS directs for giving priority passage to fruit-laden trucks on NH-44

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 17, 2025: In view of the recent disruptions on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) caused by inclement weather, Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, today chaired a high-level meeting to review restoration works, assess supply chain management, and ensure the smooth movement of essential commodities along this highway.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Public Works Department (PWD); Commissioner Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA); Divisional Commissioner, Jammu/Kashmir; Secretary, Transport; IG Traffic; Deputy Commissioners; and senior representatives from the Army, Beacon, and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary sought a detailed appraisal of the current status of NH-44. The Divisional Commissioner informed him about partial restoration of traffic on a single-lane stretch that was severely damaged by flash floods, as well as the ongoing restoration work and the efforts made by them to facilitate vehicular movement through the Mughal Road as an alternative route.
Emphasizing the need to streamline traffic managementwothe Chief Secretary directed that on September 18, only Jammu-bound vehicles be allowed to ply on NH-44, ensuring clearance of all trucks stranded enroute. On the following day, traffic would be exclusively facilitated for Srinagar-bound vehicles to enable smooth movement. He further instructed that stoppages along vulnerable stretches be strictly avoided to prevent traffic jams.
The Chief Secretary underscored the importance of expediting restoration works to restore double-lane traffic at the earliest. He directed divisional administrations to closely monitor the repair works and share real-time updates with his office.
He also called for augmenting men and machinery along both NH-44 and Mughal Road, with adequate arrangements such as cranes and service providers to assist vehicles in case of emergencies.
Highlighting the critical nature of perishable goods during the harvest season, he instructed authorities to prioritize movement of fruit-laden trucks, along with petroleum and LPG tankers, to safeguard the interests of farmers and ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities in the Valley.
Reviewing the stock position, the Chief Secretary was informed by the Commissioner Secretary, FCS&CA, Saurabh Bhagat that food grain and petroleum supplies in Kashmir were comfortable, with additional consignments being regularly transported since the partial reopening of the highway. Deputy Commissioners also apprised him of the availability of essential commodities and services in their respective districts.
The Chief Secretary reiterated that the economic interests of fruit growers and traders must be fully protected, and directed field officers to provide all necessary support for hassle-free transportation of produce.
Reiterating the urgency of restoration, the Chief Secretary impressed upon the NHAI to mobilize all available resources and ensure early completion of repair works. He emphasized that restoring NH-44 to full capacity remains the topmost priority, given its pivotal role as the lifeline connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.

KULGAM, SEPTEMBER 17: Sewa Parv 2025 commenced today with great zeal and enthusiasm across Kulgam district witnessing formal inauguration by Deputy Commissioner (DC), Athar Aamir Khan, who flagged-off a rally, an IEC Swachhta Van, and kick-started a plantation drive at the Mini Secretariat.
The inaugural day witnessed a variety of activities, including sanitation drives, awareness camps, registration and enrolment drives, and Swachhta pledges.
Addressing the occasion, DC said that the soul of the campaign lies in volunteerism and the collective contribution of all citizens towards the prosperity and development of society and the nation.
He added that a comprehensive action plan and activity calendar has been formulated to ensure that every department reaches out to citizens with their schemes and programmes, leaving no eligible beneficiary uncovered.
DC further emphasised the importance of keeping rivers, water resources, and surroundings clean, urging citizens to come together and shoulder a collective responsibility towards national development.
He also underlined that health camps, medical check-ups, sanitation initiatives, and plantation drives will be conducted across the district throughout the fortnight, and all arrangements in this regard have been finalised.
Day remained abuzz with awareness rallies, sanitation drives, plantation drives, health camps, blood donation camps and awareness sessions, on various government schemes.
Stalls were installed by various departments at the Mini Secretariat for awareness, registration, and enrolment.
Swachhta pledges were also taken by employees, students, and citizens, reaffirming their commitment to cleanliness and community service.
During the Mega function held at the mini- secretariat, sanction letters of agriculture machinery under HADP were also distributed to beneficiaries.

DC Kulgam chairs monthly NCORD meeting

KULGAM, SEPTEMBER 17: A meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was convened today at Kulgam to discuss and strategize measures to curb drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district.
The meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, reviewed the implementation of directives and decisions taken in previous sessions.
The meeting also assessed the actions taken by enforcement agencies against drug abuse and narcotic trafficking in the district.
It was informed that during the month of June, 02 drug peddlers were arrested and 01 FIR was registered in the month of August. It was further informed that the district has already achieved 100% target in the installation of CCTV cameras.
The meeting was informed that 209 inspections were carried out in pharmacies and 07 medical shops were disallowed/ suspended for violation in maintaining sale/ purchase records and two licenses were cancelled.
DC urged all stakeholders for their active participation in eradicating the drug menace.

KULGAM, SEPTEMBER 17: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Viqar Ahmad Giri today visited fruit mandi Kulgam and held a meeting with the representatives of Fruit Growers Association, transporters representatives and concerned officers.
The aim of the meeting was to address the grievances of the Fruit Traders Association.
The fruit traders, while highlighting the issues confronting them, demanded adequate transport facility, besides an end to unprecedented hike in transportation of fruit, so that fruit trade will not be affected.
While giving patient hearing to the demands of fruit growers, ADC gave assurance to the representatives and said every step will be taken to resolve their problem.
He directed the transport department for regulation and availability of transport facilities in the district.

JK Pollution Control Committee observes 'World Ozone Day'

JK Pollution Control Committee observed the day with the theme ‘From Science to Global Action’ in the conference hall of JKPCC Srinagar Kashmir. The event was attended by renowned scientists, scholars, industrialists, students, environmentalists and officials of JKPCC Kashmir.
During the event, Regional Director JKPCC Kashmir apprised the audience about the significance of OZONE layer and the substances responsible for its depletion, and the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices to contribute to this Global mission.
