Kupwara Police Solves Burglary Case in Record Time; Stolen Cash and Gold Jewellery Recovered

Kupwara, August 22:
Police in Lalpora have successfully cracked a burglary case reported from Rang Warnow Lolab and recovered stolen property including cash and gold jewellery.

On 21-08-2025, Police Post received a written complaint from Ab Rashid Mughal S/o Mohd Saliman Mughal R/o Rang Warnow Lolab stating that during the intervening night of 16/17 July 2025, unknown thieves had barged into his house and stolen cash and golden jewellery while he was away in Srinagar.

Acting promptly on the complaint, a case vide FIR No. 47/2025 U/S 331(4), 305 BNS was registered at PS Lalpora and investigation was initiated. During the course of investigation, several suspects were called in and thoroughly questioned. With sustained efforts and professional investigation, two suspects namely:
1. Ab Rashid Hajam S/o Mohd Younis Hajam
2. Mohd Aslam Chechi S/o Bagoo Chechi
both residents of Lolab

confessed their involvement in the commission of the crime. Following their disclosure, stolen property including cash amounting to ₹95,000/- and one golden ring were recovered from their possession which had been kept hidden at their residences.

Both accused persons have been arrested and further investigation in the case is going on.

Kupwara, August 20. As part of its relentless drive against the menace of drugs, Kupwara Police once again achieved a major success by apprehending two narcotic smugglers with a substantial quantity of contraband substance in Lalpora area.

Acting swiftly, a naka was laid by Police Station Lalpora at Rangward during late evening hours. At about 2200 hrs, two persons moving in suspicious circumstances were intercepted. On seeing the naka party, the duo attempted to flee, however, the alert police personnel acted with alacrity and tactfully nabbed them on the spot, thereby foiling their attempt to escape.

During their personal search, a considerable quantity of charas-like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as:
1. Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Ab Rehman Bhat, resident of Krusan
2. Aabid Shafi Mir, son of Mohd Shafi, resident of Dharamwari

In this regard, a case FIR No. 46/2025 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Lalpora and investigation has been set into motion.

Continuing its drive against the menace of drugs Kupwara Police today foiled a narcotics smuggling attempt and arrested two persons with contraband substances.

A naka was established by police at Halpal road near Masjid Murshideen. During checking two individuals coming from Bumhama towards Kupwara were intercepted in suspicious circumstances. On noticing the naka the duo tried to flee but were tactfully apprehended by the alert naka party.

On their personal search a heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. They were identified as:
1. Umair Ibn Fayaz, son of Fayaz Ahmad Mir resident of Regipora
2. Kashif Ul Islam, son of Mohd Sultan Bhat resident of Batergam

In this connection a case FIR No. 266/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act (8/21, 29) has been registered at Police Station Kupwara and further investigation is underway.

Kupwara Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicate the drug menace from society and appeals to the public to extend cooperation in sharing any information regarding drug peddling or related activities.

Deputy Inspector General of Police North Kashmir Range (NKR), Shri Maqsood-ul-Zaman, today visited District Kupwara to review the prevailing security scenario and assess the preparedness of forces on the counter-terrorism front.

During his visit DIG NKR inspected various operational units and held a series of interactions with officers including SSP Kupwara Mr Ghulam Jeelani , other officers and personnel. At SOG Camp Lolab he chaired a Darbar with the forces to listen to their issues and grievances. Several matters related to welfare and operational needs were resolved on the spot while directions were issued for early redressal of the remaining concerns.

On the counter-terrorism preparedness, DIG NKR carried out a detailed on-ground assessment to ensure smooth and hassle-free operational functioning in the district. A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation on terrorism and security-related challenges was presented by ASP Kupwara, Shri Syed Javaid, who is also SP Operations Kupwara. The presentation covered recent threat perceptions, operational strategies and area domination plans. The issues were discussed threadbare and emphasis was laid on maintaining high operational alertness, intelligence sharing and coordination among all security stakeholders.

Later the DIG visited TOB Dardpora Lolab where he took a first-hand stock of field operations and reviewed deployment patterns in sensitive areas. He also interacted with field officers and jawans, appreciating their dedication and commitment towards maintaining peace and stability in the region.

While addressing the officers DIG NKR stressed the need for people-friendly policing alongside firm action against elements inimical to peace. He also highlighted the importance of community engagement, confidence-building measures and continuous training of personnel to meet evolving challenges.

The visit reflects the continued efforts of the police leadership to keep forces motivated, ensure operational readiness and strengthen the overall security grid in District Kupwara.
