In a landmark initiative to encourage scientific curiosity and innovation among the youth, the Army, in collaboration with the National Council for Science and Technology Communication, organized a grand two-day mega science exhibition at Army Goodwill School Balapora, Shopian.

This is the first time such a large-scale science exhibition has been held in Shopian, and it drew massive participation and appreciation from students, teachers, and the local community.

More than 700 students from across thevalleyy, including districts like Baramulla, Budgam, Pulwama, Kulgam, and Shopian, actively took part in the event. The exhibition became a vibrant platform for young talent, giving them an opportunity to showcase their creativity, innovative ideas, and knowledge of modern science.

*SHOPIAN POLICE ARRESTED ONE DRUG PEDDLER; CHARAS RECOVERED*

In a significant action against the drug menace, Shopian Police apprehended one drug peddler and recovered contraband substances from his possession in the jurisdiction of Police Station Heerpora.

A police team from Police Station Heerpora established a checkpoint at Chotipora Sedow. During naka checking one person moving under suspicious circumstances was intercepted and apprehended tactfully. Upon search, Charas like substance approximately 652grams was recovered from his possession. The arrested individual disclosed his identity as irshad Ahmad Bhat Son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat resident of Hanjipora Kulgam.

In this connection, a case FIR No. 45/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Heerpora. Further investigation is underway to identify the forward and backward linkages of the arrested individuals.The operation was meticulously executed by SHO PS Heerpora Inspr. Waseem Ahmad under the supervision of *DySP Hqrs Shopian Shri Imtiyaz Ahmad-JKPS* and overall command of *SSP Shopian Shri Anayat Ali Chowdhary-IPS*

Shopian Police Book Notorious Thief Under PSA, Lodged him in Udhampur Jail

In a firm and lawful action to curb habitual criminal activity, Shopian Police have detained a notorious thief and molester, Waseem Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Aziz Wani, resident of Ganowpora, under the provisions of the Public Safety Act (PSA). The accused has been shifted to Udhampur Jail following the issuance of detention orders by the competent authority.

Police Station Shopian, in close coordination with Police Post Keegam, and under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Shopian, Shri Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir (JKPS), played a pivotal role in preparing and executing the PSA warrant against the individual. A comprehensive dossier was compiled, detailing his repeated involvement in criminal activities.

The individual is a repeat offender, involved in eight (08) FIRs registered across various police stations. His criminal history includes theft, house trespass, and serious offences against women, posing a persistent threat to public peace and community safety.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, Shri Anayat Ali Chowdhary (IPS), has reaffirmed that Shopian Police remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring the safety and dignity of all citizens. The department will continue to take firm and lawful action against habitual offenders and all those who pose a threat to peace and stability in the district.

*SHOPIAN POLICE BOOKED TWO NOTORIOUS THIEVES UNDER PUBLIC SAFETY ACT (PSA)*

In its continued drive against habitual offenders and repeat criminals who pose a serious threat to public peace and order, Shopian Police has detained Altaf Mushtaq Ganie son of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie resident of Meemander Shopian and Showkat Ahmad Wani son of Gh. Nabi resident of Astan Mohalla Arhama Shopian, under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

Both the accused are chronic offenders with a criminal history spanning over a decade since 2016. A total of 12 FIRs are registered against them at Police Station Shopian, Altaf Mushtaq is involved in 07 FIRs and Showkat Ahmad is involved in 05 different FIRs of police station Shopian. Despite repeated arrests and legal proceedings, they continued to indulge in criminal activities after being released on bail, thereby posing a constant nuisance to the public.Given their persistent involvement in theft, burglary, intimidation, and other offences, both have been declared habitual offenders and a threat to public peace. After completion of all legal formalities, detention orders were obtained from the District Magistrate, Shopian, following which both accused were taken into custody and lodged in District Jail Udhampur to prevent them from indulging in such activities again.

Shopian Police reiterates its commitment to safeguard the lives and property of the public and will continue its firm action against habitual offenders to maintain peace and tranquility in the district.
