Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, Develops Groundbreaking Climate-Smart Vegetable Varieties
โ€‹The Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, is proud to announce a major breakthrough in sustainable agriculture with the development of new climate-smart brinjal and cucumber varieties. These innovative vegetable crops are specifically bred to withstand severe environmental challenges, including extreme heat and prolonged moisture stress, without the need for traditional inputs like fertilizers and pesticides.
โ€‹The new varieties are the result of a decade of dedicated research and breeding efforts led by the faculty under the guidance of Prof. Shakeel A Mir, Dean of FoA, Wadura, and with the continuous support of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ณ. ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐˜‡๐—ถ๐—ฟ ๐—” ๐—š๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฒ. The project, funded through initiatives like JKDST and HADP, focused on developing crops resilient to both biotic and abiotic stresses.
โ€‹In a recent field screening at the "UnOrganic Natural Block" in Nine Deodar Gujjar Koona Wadura, advanced breeding lines of brinjal and chili were subjected to over two months of extreme moisture stress with no irrigation. They also endured the current yearโ€™s intense heat spell with zero inputs, including no manure, fertilizers, or pesticides. The crops exhibited exceptional and "unbelievable performance," thriving under conditions that would typically lead to crop failure.
โ€‹These new varieties represent a significant step forward in ensuring food security and promoting sustainable farming practices in a changing climate. Their ability to produce viable seeds under harsh conditions provides a robust solution for farmers seeking resilient and high-performing crops. This achievement marks the first time such varieties have been originated at the faculty's fields, underscoring its commitment to pioneering agricultural innovation.

*Jammu Police Crack Down on Modified Silencers, Reckless Biking in Jourian.*

In a firm step to tackle noise pollution and unsafe driving practices, Jourian Police have intensified their action against motorcycles fitted with illegally modified silencers.These *modifications often produce excessively loud noises, including sharp bangs resembling gunfire,* causing public nuisance and raising serious safety concerns.

During the enforcement drive today, *police seized three Bullet motorcycles with modified silencers and ten other bikes for various violations under the Motor Vehicles Act.*

Alongside strict enforcement, the police have also launched a *special awareness campaign* to educate riders about traffic rules and the dangers of negligent riding.

The Jourian Police have urged all motorists to abide by traffic regulations and refrain from using modifications that endanger public safety. Officials have reiterated that strict action will continue against violators to ensure safer roads and a peaceful environment for all.
