NHM Employees Extend Strike by 72 Hours, Hold Candlelight Protest in Anantnag

Anantnag, Sept 14 (KF): NHM employees staged a candlelight protest outside the CMO Office in Anantnag, reiterating their long-pending and legitimate demands, including salary revision, equal pay for equal work, social security benefits, job security, regularisation, and other related demands.

The protesting employees said they have repeatedly raised these genuine demands with the government and appealed for their immediate resolution so that they can return to their duties and continue serving the people.

Expressing disappointment over what they described as a negative response from the government, the employees said they were compelled to extend their strike by another 72 hours as part of their ongoing course of action.

The employees said they had also approached J&K Health Minister Sakina Itoo earlier and once again appealed to the government to take concrete steps to resolve their issues at the earliest. (KF)

G.A. Mir Joins NHM Employee's Strike in Anantnag, Assures Full Support

Anantnag, Sept 14 (KF): AICC General Secretary and MLA Dooru Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Sunday joined the ongoing strike of National Health Mission (NHM) employees outside the CMO Office in Anantnag and extended his support to their demands, including regularisation, social security and pay revision.

Addressing the protesting employees, Mir said he had gone through the directions issued by the Central Government regarding NHM employees and maintained that the Jammu and Kashmir Government cannot simply cite the Central scheme as a reason for not addressing their long-pending demands.

Mir said the Central Government has already given states flexibility to amend rules and adopt appropriate measures, including regularisation or other mechanisms, according to their requirements and prevailing circumstances.

He questioned why the J&K Government and Health Minister Sakina Itoo were unable to take a decision on the issue despite such directions, asserting that the NHM employees have been serving the health sector for years and deserve a fair and humane resolution.

Mir assured the protesting employees that he would extend all possible support and raise their concerns at the appropriate platforms.

The NHM employees have launched strike from 9 September demanding regularisation of their services, social security and revision of their pay. The strike has affected the functioning of several hospitals, Primary Health Centres and other healthcare institutions across the district.

Anantnag Police Continues War Against Drug Menace, Arrests One More Drug Peddler, Contraband Recovered

Anantnag, Sept 14: Continuing its war against the drug menace, Anantnag Police arrested one more drug peddler and recovered contraband from his possession during routine checking near Bypass Library, Anantnag.

A police party from Police Station Anantnag, while conducting routine checking, intercepted a person identified as Jahangir Yaqoob S/o Mohd. Yaqoob Bhat R/o Hanji Dantar, Anantnag, who was travelling on a motorcycle. Upon search, 4.30 grams of charas was recovered from his possession.

In this connection, Case FIR No. 306/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag, and further investigation has been taken up.

Anantnag Police remains committed to intensifying its efforts against drug trafficking and ensuring a drug-free society.

SHO Bijbehara Majid Khan Injured After Being Hit by Vehicle While on Duty

Anantnag, Sept 13 (KF): Station House Officer (SHO) Bijbehara, Majid Khan, was injured after being hit by a vehicle while performing his duty on Sunday evening.

Following the incident, the injured police officer was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara for medical treatment. He was later referred to Bone & Joint Hospital, Srinagar, for further treatment and evaluation.

Prayers for his speedy and complete recovery. May Allah bless him with good health. (KF)

Social Activist Tariq Veeray appreciated the District Administration and Anantnag Police for removing illegal roadside Taxi stands, particularly at Mehandi Kadal, which had been obstructing ambulance movement.

Veeray appealed to the Transport Commissioner and the district administration to direct ARTO Anantnag to remove passengers vehicle stands without registration and review the entry of passenger vehicles, including Tavera, Sumo, Tata Magic and auto-rickshaws, into Anantnag town and take necessary action to regulate their movement in accordance with the rules and procedures.

Drivers of Taxi Stand No. 1 at Mehandi Kadal, Anantnag, have expressed appreciation to the District Administration & Anantnag Police for taking measures to prevent passenger vehicles from operating from unauthorized roadside stands.

The drivers particularly welcomed the clearance of roads, including routes frequently used by ambulances, saying the action has helped improve traffic movement and reduce inconvenience to commuters.

They also appealed to the administration and concerned police authorities to maintain strict vigilance and continue monitoring the area in the future to prevent the re-emergence of illegal roadside passenger stands.

Anantnag Police Arrests 3 Drug Peddlers in Two Separate NDPS Cases; Charas & Brown Sugar Recovered

Anantnag, Sept 13: Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking and substance abuse, Anantnag Police has arrested three drug peddlers in two separate operations and recovered contraband from their possession.

In the first operation, a police party from Police Station Bijbehara, during naka checking at Katriteng-Waghama Road, apprehended two persons identified as Ubaid Rashid Dar S/o Abdul Rashid Dar R/o Waghama and Javaid Ahmad Parray S/o Mohd Maqbool Parray R/o Jablipora. During their search, 4.49 grams of brown sugar was recovered from their possession.

In this regard, FIR No. 259/2026 under Sections 8/21 and 29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been initiated.

In another operation, a police party from Police Station Anantnag, during routine checking near Batapora Bridge, apprehended Shahid Maqsood Khuroo S/o Maqsood Ahmad R/o Guri Kharipora, Anantnag. During his search, charas was recovered from his possession.

Consequently, FIR No. 303/2026 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag and investigation has been set into motion.

Anantnag Police reiterates its commitment to dismantling the drug supply network and taking stringent legal action against those involved in drug trafficking and peddling.
