PDP president Mehbooba M***i on Monday criticised the government over women’s safety following the alleged gang r**e of a 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh inside a bus while travelling towards Delhi.

Mehbooba alleged that greater priority is being given to cow protection than preventing sexual violence against women. She called for stronger efforts to protect women and girls from r**e and violence.

Police have arrested the bus driver and conductor in connection with the case, according to reports.

🚨 ACB Chargesheets Ex-ZEO Office Employee Over MDM Ration Fraud

The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet against Mohd Farooq, a former junior assistant in the office of the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Manjakote, in an alleged Mid-Day Meal (MDM) ration misappropriation case.

According to the ACB, the case relates to the alleged misappropriation of 256.40 quintals of rice meant for the MDM scheme during the fourth quarter of 2014–15.

The rice was valued at approximately ₹8.04 lakh, while an additional ₹4.62 lakh in cooking costs was allegedly misappropriated. The total loss to the state exchequer was assessed at ₹12.65 lakh.

The investigation allegedly found that Farooq, who was dealing with MDM matters, and then-ZEO Shah Nawaz Khan, who has since died, prepared fake and forged indents and authority letters by manipulating official records.

The ACB said its investigation included scrutiny of records and a forensic examination.

The chargesheet has been filed under relevant provisions of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006, and the Ranbir Penal Code, including provisions relating to criminal misconduct, forgery, use of forged documents, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy.

The next date of hearing is September 29.

Woman Killed in Bear Attack in South Kashmir

A 45-year-old woman was killed after being attacked by a bear in an orchard in Tarigam village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday, reports said.

The deceased was identified as Latifa Banoo, a resident of Tarigam.
