Sajad Lone backs LG Manoj Sinha’s Nasha Mukth Abhiyan Says Drug Menace is ‘Most Vicious Threat’ to society that had long outpaced State’s response

*Srinagar, April 15:* Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara Sajad Gani Lone on Wednesday extended his strong support to the Nasha Mukth Abhiyan, calling it “such an important step” while warning that the drug menace has emerged as the most vicious threat confronting Kashmiri society today.

Lone, who previously served as Social Welfare Minister, drew on his direct experience in office to underscore the gravity of the crisis. “I have been a SOCIAL WELFARE Minister in the past. And it was scary,” he said. “I remember, the scourge of drugs was dangerously creeping in and we as government were totally unprepared.”

Thanking LG Manoj Sinha for initiating the campaign, he issued an unsparing assessment of the challenge ahead. “There is so much that needs to be done,” he said, stressing that the problem had long outpaced the state’s response.

Moreover, PC President called on society to confront the crisis with unflinching honesty. “We as a society have to acknowledge that the monster of drugs staring at our faces is real,” Lone said. “And that we have to collectively wage a war against it.”

“Will Decide Stand on Centre’s Parliamentary Bill After INDIA Bloc Meeting”: CM Omar

SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that a final stand on the proposed bill by the Centre will be taken after detailed discussions within the INDIA bloc.

Speaking to media persons, the Chief Minister said a meeting of alliance partners is scheduled in New Delhi where the issue will be deliberated collectively.

“We alone cannot decide on this. The INDIA bloc will discuss and take a joint decision on what our response should be, both in Parliament and outside,” he said.

He said the National Conference will also finalise its position after consultations with alliance partners, adding that clarity will emerge after the meeting.

Referring to past experiences, the Chief Minister expressed concerns over the impact of delimitation, stating that earlier exercises appeared to benefit certain political interests.

“Based on our experience, the way constituencies were redrawn and voters shifted, it seemed aimed at benefiting a particular party and its allies,” he said.

He added that if any new bill is brought with a similar intent, it will have to be carefully examined to ensure it serves the interests of the common people rather than political gains.

Chief Minister reiterated that a collective and informed decision will be taken after consultations, and the party will communicate its stance thereafter. (KNC)
