Media Should Represent the Nation, Not Promote Individual Families: G.M. Shaheen

Srinagar, November 3:
JDU Party President Jammu & Kashmir, G.M. Shaheen, has expressed concern over the unnecessary media hype being given to the son of Omar Abdullah for appearing in court. Shaheen stated that Jammu & Kashmir has many reputed and senior advocates who have dedicated their lives to the cause of justice, yet their contributions often go unnoticed.

He emphasized that the media’s role is to represent the nation and its people—not to promote individual families or political dynasties. “Highlighting one family’s private or professional matters as national news undermines the dignity of our judiciary and the credibility of journalism,” Shaheen said.

He appealed to media houses to maintain fairness, neutrality, and professionalism while covering legal or political issues, and to give due space to the achievements and voices of common citizens and professionals who serve the nation selflessly.
