340 Kg of Unlabelled Meat Seized Near Airport by Sales Tax and Food Safety Department

Srinagar, Sept 7: In a joint operation, the Sales Tax Department and the Food Safety Department seized 340 kilograms of unlabelled meat outside the airport on Sunday.

Officials said the consignment was being transported without proper labeling or documentation, raising concerns about its quality and origin. The departments have initiated further investigation to ascertain the source of the meat and whether it was meant for commercial sale.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring food safety standards and warned that strict action will be taken against violators found involved in the illegal trade of unverified meat products.

Office of the Party President – Janata Dal (United), Jammu & Kashmir
Srinagar | September 5, 2025
JD(U) Party President G.M. Shaheen has issued a stern appeal to the Government of India, demanding immediate, large-scale relief and rehabilitation measures for the flood-ravaged people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In his statement, Shaheen declared:
“People have endured catastrophic devastation — homes flattened, fertile lands destroyed, vehicles swept away, and precious lives lost — following the recent cloudbursts, deluges, flash floods, incessant rains, and lethal landslides across wide swathes of Jammu and Kashmir.”
He further asserted:
“The magnitude of destruction is so overwhelming that it necessitates nothing less than direct intervention by the Union Government. I categorically urge the Central leadership to sanction a comprehensive, time-bound relief and compensation package for all victims of these natural cataclysms.”
Shaheen cautioned that any delay would deepen despair and disillusionment among the people, insisting that the Hon’ble Prime Minister personally ensure that “the flood-stricken citizens of Jammu and Kashmir are not abandoned or left to suffer in silence.”
The JD(U) chief underscored that every section of society — farmers, orchardists, transporters, and those dependent on tourism — has been crippled by unprecedented losses. He noted that thousands of families have seen their dwellings shattered, croplands ruined, and essential infrastructure obliterated, pushing them into extreme misery.
Calling the crisis a “national emergency in spirit,” Shaheen demanded the swift mobilization of food, potable water, medical aid, shelter, and financial assistance to rebuild shattered livelihoods. He also exhorted the local administration to act in unison with central agencies to guarantee that relief reaches the last and most vulnerable citizen without bureaucratic delay or corruption.
Reiterating JD(U)’s unwavering stance, Shaheen vowed:
“Our party shall stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the afflicted families, lending voice, support, and strength until justice and relief are fully delivered.”

Adv Neelofar Masood President. W. W JKNC District Baramulla in a press note said
Section 25, of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 defines “public holiday” to include any day declared by notification of the Central Government or a State Government. However
Under Section 3(60), General Clauses Act, 1897, in relation to a Union territory the expression “State Government” means the Central Government (and, in practice, acts through the Administrator /Lieutenant-Governor to whom business is allocated). So, for UTs like Jammu & Kashmir, the competent authority (LG/Administration via GAD) may issue/alter holiday notifications And unfortunately Eid Milad-un- Nabi (SWT), Holiday has not been rescheduled despite request made by the Elected Govt.
The decision of the Administration not to reschedule the holiday of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), despite the fact that this sacred day is universally accepted as subject to the sighting of the moon, has left the Muslim community of Jammu & Kashmir deeply pained and disappointed.

For centuries, Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) has been observed with immense love, reverence, and spiritual devotion. It is not simply a date on the calendar — it is an expression of faith, an occasion of unity, and a celebration of the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet (SAW). To deny rescheduling, even when moon sighting has clearly shifted the occasion, amounts to overlooking the sanctity of tradition and the sentiments of millions.

What makes this disregard more troubling is that even the Government’s own holiday notifications categorically state that Muslim festivals are to be observed “subject to appearance of the moon.” Ignoring this explicit condition not only causes confusion but also reflects a lack of sensitivity and foresight on the part of those entrusted with governance.

The people rightfully expect that their faith and traditions will be respected by those in power. A refusal to adjust the holiday in line with moon sighting conveys the impression of rigidity and disconnect from the ground realities of the society .
We, therefore, urge the Central Govt. /Resp LG to correct this oversight and reschedule the holiday in accordance with moon sighting. Such a step would not only uphold the letter of the law but also demonstrate that they are attuned to the religious, emotional, and cultural fabric of the people they serve.
Respecting the sanctity of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) is not a matter of concession; it is a matter of duty, sensitivity, and justice.

In addition to evacuation efforts, J&K Police has proactively identified and plugged potential breaches in embankments, preventing further escalation of the flood-like situation. J&K Police has also formed contingency teams and QRTs across all Police establishments of the District to actively provide aid and assistance to stranded citizens, regulate traffic at congested areas and reach the doorsteps of affected vulnerable families timely for frontline rescue efforts.

J&K Police urges citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall; report incidents such as waterlogging, fallen trees, or electric hazards to the nearest Police Station or Police Control Room (PCR); cooperate with police and emergency services and adhere strictly to official advisories. Citizens facing emergencies are encouraged to contact the dedicated helplines or CUG/official numbers of District Police Officers, which are operational round the clock and available in the public domain.

J&K Police remains fully committed to public safety and will continue to extend all possible assistance during these challenging times.```
