Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai Stresses Adoption of High-Yielding Varieties in Gurez.
Bandipora, Sept 22: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Gurez II today organized an input distribution programme under the Tribal Sub-Plan at Korkbal Village in Gurez . Tribal farmers of the village received agricultural tools during the programme.
Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that under the Tribal Sub-Plan, efforts are being made for the upliftment of tribal populations in Gurez, which remains cut off for about six months in a year. He highlighted the use of new technology for vegetable cultivation and stressed the need for adoption and dissemination of high-yielding, university-released varieties of seeds.
Prof. Ganai said that the varieties released by SKUAST-K are climate resilient, less susceptible to diseases, and can tolerate adverse weather conditions. He also briefed the farmers about the role of SKUAST-K in agricultural research to support the farming community in the valley.
On the occasion, he was accompanied by Director KVKs, Prof. Rehana Khatoon.KVK head Bandipora Dr Tariq Sultan ,KVK Gurez DR Hilal Ahmad.
