Massive Flight Disruptions Hit IndiGo as ATC Glitch at Delhi Airport Causes Nationwide Delays
New Delhi/Srinagar, November 7, 2025 — Air travel across India has been thrown into chaos today after a major technical glitch struck the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), grounding and delaying hundreds of flights operated by IndiGo and other airlines.
The Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), a crucial network that manages flight plan processing and ATC communications, failed early Friday morning. The breakdown has forced air traffic controllers to process flight plans manually, leading to massive delays and a cascading impact on airports nationwide — including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Srinagar.
At Srinagar Airport, hundreds of passengers were left stranded for hours as connecting IndiGo flights through Delhi faced cancellations and rescheduling. Many expressed deep frustration over the chaos and lack of clarity from airline staff.
One passenger, Mr. Zakir Ellahi from Srinagar, who was traveling to Doha, Qatar, via Delhi on an IndiGo connection, described it as his “worst ever travel experience.”
> “This is the worst experience I’ve ever faced. My flight was delayed for hours, and now my luggage is missing too. There’s no proper information or help,” said Mr. Ellahi, visibly upset.
IndiGo has acknowledged the disruption, stating that it is coordinating closely with airport authorities to manage the situation. “Passengers are requested to check their flight status before heading to the airport,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.
As of Friday evening, delays continue to ripple across multiple airports. Authorities have assured that technical teams are working round-the-clock to restore the AMSS system and resume normal flight operations as soon as possible.
