District Legal Services Authority, Srinagar, under the aegis of the J&K Legal Services Authority, organized a specialized training programme on 25th June 2025 in the Conference Hall, ADR Centre, District Court Complex, Srinagar. The programme was intended for Panel Lawyers, Legal Aid Defence Counsels (LADCs), and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), with a focused agenda on strengthening legal aid mechanisms concerning the rights of women and children. The programme was held under the chairmanship of Mr. TasleemArief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and under the close supervision of Mr. Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.
This initiative aligns with the recommendations made in Paras 3.48 and 3.49, Chapter III, of the 147th Report of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee. The Committee advocates for improved accessibility to the E-LokAdalat platform, particularly for individuals in rural areas and those with limited digital resources. It further encourages collaboration with local organizations to establish digital legal access points and the training of PLVs to assist citizens in navigating online justice platforms. The observations also emphasize the creation of specialized legal aid units focused on women’s and children’s rights, supported by trained legal professionals and partnerships with NGOs and child welfare agencies.
Advocate Naveed Gul served as the resource person and delivered an insightful training session aimed at enhancing the competence and sensitivity of legal aid providers in handling cases involving women and children. The session also addressed the integration of digital tools into legal aid delivery to ensure timely and equitable access to justice for marginalized sections of society.
Following the training, a review meeting of Panel Lawyers LADCS and PLVs was convened by Mr. Sajad Ur Rehman, Secretary, DLSA Srinagar. The meeting provided a platform to assess ongoing legal aid activities, address field-level challenges, and reinforce professional accountability. Mr. Sajad Ur Rehman urged all stakeholders to remain committed to their responsibilities and to adopt a people-centric and technology-enabled approach in advancing legal aid services, particularly for vulnerable and digitally excluded groups.

Kashmir economic alliance held press conference at Srinagar

Janta Dal United (JDU) senior leader GM Shaheen launched a scathing attack on the Jammu and Kashmir administration led by the National Conference (NC), accusing it of gross underperformance and adopting a lenient approach toward its governance responsibilities.

Shaheen stated that the NC government has failed to deliver on even a single promise made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that key issues such as road macadamisation and other essential public needs have been neglected, causing widespread suffering among the masses.

Highlighting a recent incident, Shaheen pointed out that while the central government ensured the safe return of students stranded abroad, the J&K government’s role was limited to merely arranging buses for their transportation back home—a move he described as “shameful” and reflective of the administration’s inefficiency.

“If this government cannot fulfill its duties, it should step down. Let the Lieutenant Governor administer the region, at least then, developmental works might get completed within a stipulated timeframe,” Shaheen asserted.
