Runway Maintenance at Srinagar Airport Triggers Special Luggage Arrangements for Hajj Pilgrims
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Hajj Committee has announced temporary luggage restrictions for returning Hajj pilgrims due to ongoing runway maintenance work at Srinagar International Airport, which is affecting aircraft operations and baggage handling capacity.
Chief Executive Officer of the J&K Hajj Committee, Dr. Shujaat Ahmad Qureshi, said that pilgrims arriving from Saudi Arabia will be permitted to carry only 5 kilograms of checked-in baggage and 7 kilograms of hand luggage on their flights to Srinagar.
The remaining luggage will be offloaded at Ahmedabad Airport and transported separately to Srinagar through an alternative arrangement, ensuring that pilgrims receive their belongings after arrival.
Officials said the measure has been adopted to facilitate smooth flight operations during the runway maintenance period and to avoid delays in the repatriation process. The Hajj Committee has appealed to pilgrims to strictly adhere to the baggage limits and cooperate with authorities.
The arrangement will remain in force until normal airport operations and baggage handling capacities are fully restored.

On the auspicious occasion of Eid ul Adha, the President Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK), Tariq Ghani, has urged the administration to make comprehensive and timely arrangements to facilitate smooth celebrations for the people across Kashmir.

He appealed to the concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supply, proper road maintenance and adequate availability of essential commodities in markets during the festive period. He particularly emphasized the need for strict market regulation and effective rate monitoring of sacrificial animals, bakery products and other essential items to prevent overpricing and ensure affordability for the common people.

Tariq Ghani stressed that sacrificial animals should be made available at reasonable and affordable rates so that every household intending to perform the religious obligation of Qurbani can do so without financial hardship. He urged the authorities to closely monitor livestock markets and take action against profiteering and unfair pricing practices.

The CCIK President further requested the administration to ensure proper sanitation, waste disposal and cleanliness measures in all marketplaces, residential areas and religious gathering spots to maintain public hygiene during Eid celebrations.

He also called for adequate arrangements at Eid prayer venues, including proper cleanliness, traffic regulation, drinking water facilities, parking management and other necessary civic amenities to facilitate peaceful and hassle-free Eid congregations.

Tariq Ghani expressed hope that the administration will take all necessary measures in a timely manner to ensure that the people celebrate Eid ul Adha in a peaceful, dignified and comfortable atmosphere.
