Acquition of 4,900 kanals of prime agriculture land in Newa Pulwama for shifting NIT, Srinagar an ill concieved proportion: Hakeem Yaseen
* Move a big disaster
for environmental sustainability , local livelihoods.
Srinagar,Dec.31:-
Chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Muhammad

Yaseen has cautioned the government against disastrous impact of the proposal of the administration to acquire 4,900 kanals of prime agriculture land in Newa Pulwama for the purpose of shifting NIT, Srinagar . He has
cautioned that the move would be a big disaster
both for environmental sustainability and local livelihoods.
In a statement issued on Wednesday , Hakeem Yaseen while criticising decision of the goverment to acquire about 4900 kanals of prime fertile horticulture land near Newa in Pulwama district for shifting the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar , has cautioned that the move would be a total destruction of agriculture and rural livelihoods. He said the move will be a last nail in the coffin of Kashmir’s ecological balance .He said srinagar’s present NIT complex is sufficient , adding that the Pulwama farmland should be spared for the sake of posterity. He said while development of infrastructure was important for prosperity but it should not be at the cost of livelihood of the people and ecology of the habitations. He said the fertile karewa lands, proposed for new NIT , is a hub of mordern high-density horticulture activities , supporting livelihoods of hundreds of families and needs to be spared exclusively for the agriculture purposes . He said the proposed takeover of 4,900 kanals of land for new NIT would not only block agriculture activities but would displace hundreds of families and put them to a severe economic distress.
PDF Chairman has urged the government to shelve the proposed move in the large interests of the people of kashmir.
Seconding concerns of the environmentalists, Hakeem Yaseen said that the proposed land in Newa area is not only agriculturally valuable but also plays a critical role in maintaining the local ecosystem.
Hakeem Yaseen has asked the government to reassess its priorities adding that cultivable land should in no way be brought under constructions including laying of railway tracks and concrete buildings. He said J&K is already struggling with high unemployment and marginalizing the agricultural sector would further aggrevate the problem . He said J&K needs a model of development that would protect its agricultural resources and ecosystem without sacrificing livelihoods of its people.

Hakeem Yaseen anguished over
exclusion of Martyrs’ Day and Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s birthday from official holiday list.
* These days have historical sigficance.

Srinagar, Dec 31: Chairman Peoples Democratic Front ( PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has expressed dosappointment over exclusion of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s birthday on Dec.5 and July 13, Martyrs’ Day, from the official holiday list for 2025. He said though other hoildays of national and religious importance such as Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Birthday (Jan 6), Republic Day (Jan 26), Eid-ul-Fitr (March 31), Independence Day (Aug 15), and Diwali (Oct 21have rightly been included in the 2025 calender , but Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s birthday and July 13, Martyrs’ Day, have been eraneously omitted from the holiday list , which has severly hurt sentiments of the majority of the people of jammu and kashmir.
In a statement issued on Tuesday ,Hakeem Yaseen while expressing anguish over the exclusion of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s birthday and July 13, Martyrs’ Day, from the official holiday list for 2025 , has said that both these days have pivotal historical significance in the socio - political erena of j&k. He said Shiekh Abdullah was a towering leader who has played a significant role in the freedom struggle and socio - political awakening of the people of jammu and kashmir. "Deliberately repeating the mistake of ommitting Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s birthday and July 13, Martyrs’ Day, from the holiday list demonstrates myopic outlook , despite the fact that Omar-led government had already submitted the proposal of reinstating the Dec 5 holiday to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha .

PDF Chairman has said while the holiday calendar for 2025 honors key historical figures like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Maharaja Hari Singh, the absence of Sheikh Abdullah’s Birthday and Martyrs’ Day remains a contentious issue.
Hakeem Yaseen has said ,in view of thier socio- political significance in the history of jammu and kashmir , inclusion of Shiekh Abdullas's birthday on Dec.5 and martyers day on July 13 , was a public yearning and not any particular parties demand . He said this public issue should not be made a complex bone of contension.

PDP MLA Waheed Para speaking on reservation row:
“We are a young state…Kashmir youth are involved in drugs, depression, militancy, UAPA…It is for the first time that the youth of Kashmir are seeking their legitimate right…Our youth study for 20-30 years and then they are told they won’t get admission in this college. Our youth can’t study in our own SKIMS, our university…our youth can’t find jobs here… I think this is about changing the way we live, the way we earn and also turning people from has to haven’ts. This is not just about reservation. This will lead to a cultural and economic shift…”
