Gvn....KEA Demands Crime Branch Probe into Rotten Meat Racket in Kashmir
Srinagar — The Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) has called for a Crime Branch investigation into the recent seizure of substandard and rotten meat in the Valley, terming it a grave public health concern that needs to be tackled from the root.
In a statement to the media, the KEA said it is imperative to determine the source of the meat being supplied to Kashmiri consumers — including whether it is halal or haram — and to verify if it meets safety standards for human consumption. The alliance alleged that decayed meat is being sold on a large scale in both north and south Kashmir, describing it as a “highly sensitive and alarming matter” that directly affects “the life and faith” of the people.
The KEA stressed that merely seizing the stock is not enough, adding that a thorough, transparent investigation is essential to expose the entire network involved — including elements outside Jammu and Kashmir who are allegedly endangering the health of the local population.
Calling for intensified crackdowns, the alliance urged authorities to regularly monitor not only meat but also the quality of ready-made and cooked food served across the Valley to ensure consumers are not subjected to unhygienic or substandard meals.
“The only way to safeguard public health is to dismantle this racket completely,” the KEA maintained.

Gvn....KTA demands rotten meat suppliers should be booked under Public Safety Act
Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) has strongly condemned the alarming practice of supplying rotten meat to food outlets across the valley and demanded that all persons involved in this dangerous trade be booked under the Public Safety Act.

In a statement issued here, President of Kashmir Trade Alliance, Aijaz Shahdhar, expressed grave concern over the deteriorating food safety standards and described the situation as a "health emergency" that requires immediate intervention from authorities.

"The supply of rotten and contaminated meat to food outlets has created a health emergency-like situation in Kashmir. Even one bite of this rotten meat can lead to serious diseases and health complications. This is precisely why we are witnessing an alarming increase in various diseases among our population," said Shahdhar.

Shahdhar emphasised that this malpractice not only poses serious health risks to consumers but also damages the reputation of the entire food industry in Kashmir. "Innocent customers who visit food outlets with trust are being served contaminated meat, which is completely unacceptable and amounts to playing with public health," he added.

Kashmir Trade Alliance has demanded that the concerned authorities, including the Food Safety Department, Health Department, and local administration, take immediate cognisance of this matter and launch a comprehensive crackdown against suppliers and vendors involved in this illegal practice.

"We urge the government to conduct surprise raids at meat supply centres, storage facilities, and food outlets to identify those involved in supplying substandard and rotten meat. We demand that all persons found guilty of selling rotten meat should be booked under the Public Safety Act, as they are endangering public health and safety. The health of people cannot be compromised for profit," Shahdhar stated.

The trade body has also called upon food outlet owners to ensure they source meat only from certified and reliable suppliers who maintain proper hygiene and storage standards. KTA warned that any food establishment found using contaminated meat would face strong opposition from the trade community.
"We appeal to all food outlet owners to prioritise customer health over profit margins. It is their moral and legal responsibility to ensure that only fresh and quality meat is served to customers," Shahdhar emphasised.

Anantnag, Aug 8,: A grieving family from south Kashmir’s Kokarnag has accused paramedical staff at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag of medical negligence, claiming it led to the death of their two-year-old daughter, Pakeeza Shakeel.
According to her uncle, Malik Basharat, the child, a resident of Adal village, was admitted to the Pediatric Section of GMC Anantnag on August 4 after she developed an intestinal infection. He said doctors had advised the paramedical staff to administer a test dose of the Cefixime before giving the full dosage.
“We pleaded repeatedly with the staff to follow the doctor’s advice, but they ignored us,” Basharat alleged. “Pakeeza developed a severe reaction. When her condition worsened, they referred her to JVC Bemina, but no paramedical staff accompanied us in the ambulance.”
He further claimed that during the journey, the oxygen pipe came loose near Pampore and was reattached with difficulty by the ambulance driver. “Doctors at JVC Bemina tried their best to save her, but she passed away during the night of August 4–5,” he said, blaming GMC Anantnag for her death and alleging that the “arrogance of the paramedical staff is beyond limits.”
The family said they were too shocked to raise the matter immediately after the incident. However, when the Kashmir News Trust contacted GMC Anantnag Medical Superintendent Dr Arshid regarding the allegations, he said a committee has already been constituted to investigate the matter and determine responsibility.
The official probe is expected to examine the treatment process, staff conduct, and adherence to medical protocols.
