Kupwara police arrests drug peddlers at Dragmulla

Acting tough against the drug menace, Kupwara Police yet again arrests two more persons involved in drug trafficking.

Police Post Dragmulla, during its routine naka checking at Muqam Shah crossing, found two persons suspiciously fleeing from the naka point upon noticing the police personnel at the checkpoint. The two persons were swiftly nabbed, and a thorough personal search was conducted, leading to the recovery of a substantial amount of charas (cannabis)-like substance.

The two persons, upon questioning, revealed their names as Tariq Ahmad Khan S/O Ghulam Rasool Khan R/O Waterkhani and Mohd Irshad Khan S/O Mohd Khan R/O Hyhama Batpora.

Taking cognizance of the matter, FIR No. 212/25 has been registered at Police Station Kupwara U/S 8/20, 27A, and 29 NDPS Act.

Kupwara Police shall continue with the same momentum till the drug menace is wiped out from society. Public cooperation is solicited.

J&K ACB traps and arrests Muzamil Salam, Patwari, Patwar Halqa Pogal Paristan, Ramban for demanding and accepting bribe of โ‚น2500

Jammu & Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging therein that the complainant applied for the correction of the name of his father that was entered wrong in the revenue records in the office of Tehsildar Ukhral. The Tehsildar directed Patwari Muzamil Salam of Patwar Halqa Pogal Paristan for doing the needful. The concerned Patwari demanded โ‚น20,000 from the complainant for making the necessary changes however after negotiations the Patwari agreed to do the needful for โ‚น2500.

Since the complainant didnโ€™t want to pay bribe, he approached ACB for taking legal action against the accused public servant under law. On receipt of a complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirms the demand of bribe by the public servant. Accordingly, case FIR No.03/2025 u/s 7 of PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) was registered in PS ACB Doda and investigation taken-up.

During the course of investigation, a trap team headed by Gazetted Rank Officer was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servant Muzamil Salam S/o Salam Ud Din Shah R/o Kaskoot, Tehsil Banihal, District Ramban presently posted as Patwari, Patwar Halqa Pogal Paristan, District Ramban was caught red handed while demanding and accepting of bribe โ‚น2500 from the complainant in presence of independent witnesses.

The accused was arrested on spot by the ACB team after following the due procedure of law. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team.

Further investigation of the instant case is going on.

169 Indians, 53 British nationals among 242 onboard ill-fated Air India flight.
New Delhi, Jun 12: There were 169 Indians, 53 British, one Canadian and seven Portuguese nationals onboard the ill-fated Air India flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, which crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members onboard the Boeing 787-8 aircraft, Air India said in a statement on social media platform 'X'.

"Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals," it said.

The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals, the airline said.

"We have also set up a dedicated passenger hotline number 1800 5691 444 to provide more information," it said.

Air India also said that it is giving its full cooperation to the authorities investigating the incident.โ€“(PTI)
