*No Internet In Pulwama: KU Students Urge Varsity To Postpone Online Examination*

Srinagar, May 17 (GNS): Students from Pulwama district have urged Kashmir University authorities to postpone online examinations scheduled for today due to snapping of the internet services in the southern Kashmir district following a gunfight in Khanmoh area.

A number of MA students who are scheduled to appear in the examination beginning at 1400 hours told GNS it was impossible for them to appear in the online examination in absence of the internet. “One can’t even travel outside in wake of the corona curfew,” the students said and urged the varsity authorities to defer the examination to some later date. Srinagar, May 17 (KNO): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar Monday said that two Al-Badr militants have been killed in Khonmoh, Srinagar encounter and the slain duo are locals.

Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) at Pantha Chowk here, the IGP said that Srinagar police received a tip-off yesterday evening after which the lead was further developed. “Police, army and the CRPF laid a siege in Khommoh area.

Two militants were hiding in the area. They were repeatedly asked to surrender, but they turned down all offers,” the IGP said. “This morning, the encounter started and both the militants were killed. The slain duo are locals from Al-Badr outfit.”

He said that Khonmoh and Khrew areas are connected with Tral belt of Pulwama district and this stretch usually witnesses militant movement—(KNO)

*23-Year-Old Youth Among 20 More Succumb To Covid-19 In J&K, Toll 3169*


Srinagar, May 17 (GNS): A 23-year-old youth was among at least 20 persons who succumbed to the covid-19 in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening, officials said on Monday.

13 among the fresh deaths were reported at Jammu hospitals while seven persons died at various hospitals here, taking the overall toll due to the virus in J&K to 3169, they said.

Among others, the officials told GNS that the 23-year-old youth from Qamarwari Srinagar died SMHS hospital, a week after he was admitted there.

A 57-year-old woman from BK Pora Kanipora Budgam died two days after she was admitted to the SMHS hospital, they said.

A 68-year-old man from Hamdaniya Colony Bemina died eight days after he was admitted to the hospital.

A 73-year-old woman from Buchapora Srinagar died at JLNM hospital Rainawari Srinagar, they said.

A 42-year-old man from Pattan Baramulla died a day after he was admitted to the SKIMS Soura, they said.

A 75-year-old man from Qamarwari died ten days after he was admitted with bilateral community Acquired Pneumonia, they said.

A woman from Dalgate Srinagar died at CD hospital, two days after she was admitted to one of the exclusive facilities for the management of the covid-19 patients.(GNS)

*Kashmir police arrests two sons of Ashraf Sehrai in Srinagar*

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday evening arrested two sons of late Ashraf Sehrai, Hurriyat Chairman who died at GMC Jammu hospital while facing detention under Public Safety Act (PSA) on May 5.

Family sources said that the two sons of late Ashraf Sehrai, who passed away after brief illness at GMC Jammu hospital during incarceration under Public Safety Act (PSA) on May 5 have been arrested from Bulbul bagh Barzulla residence in Srinagar.

They said a police party from Kupwara in assistance with Srinagar Police arrested Mujahid Sehrai and Rashid Sehrai, both sons of late Ashraf Sehrai, and took them to Kupwara.

Earlier, two close relatives of late Ashraf Sehrai were also arrested, sources added

Local sources said that both the sons of late Sehrai have been arrested in connection with a case registered against them on May 6 at the Police station Tekkipora-Sogam.

They said that while taking the body of Sehrai to Tekkipora-Sogam graveyard in Kupwara for burial on May 6, some people were found raising “pro-freedom and provocative slogans”. The video of the same had gone viral on social media. Accordingly a case was registered against 20 people found raising slogans, they added.

No police official was available for comments on the arrests made by Kupwara police in Srinagar.

*Wind Catastrophe: Resisdencial House Partially Damaged in Pulwama*

Srinagar, May 15 (KB): A tragedy happened at Pulwama on Saturday when a resisdencal house got partially damaged due to heavy wind.

Sources told the Kashmir Bulletin (KB) that on Saturday a resisdencal House located at Malangpora area of Pulwama got partially damaged due to heavy wind.

As per sources the House owner has also been identified as Shameema Banoo.

Locals said that due to heavy wind, the Roof top of the house got fully damaged and it has now completely collapsed, causing immense hardships to the house owner.

However no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident .(KB --- Kashmir Bulletin)

*Police recover IED in Pulwama, averting major attack*

Pulwama, May 15, KNT: Police on Saturday evening said that after the questioning of few suspects in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered.

Jammu Kashmir Police said that they had received inputs that Jaish-e-Muhammad militants were planning to carry out IED attacks which shall be spectacular.

Police said that on the basis of which few suspects were questioned and, on their admission, an IED weighing 10 kilo grams has been recovered in Pulwama.

Police said that by recovering this IED, a major attack has been averted. (KNT)
