Subject: ARTO Sopore Holds Meeting at Kreeri to Regulate Passenger Transport and Strengthen Coordination with SUMO Unions
Kreeri, October 25:
In a continuing effort to streamline passenger transportation services and ensure safety and discipline among local transport operators, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Sopore today convened an important meeting at Kreeri with representatives of SUMO unions, drivers, and local traders.
The meeting, held in the presence of Mr. S. N. D. Andrabi, President, Traders Association Kreeri, focused on bringing better regulation, cooperation, and public convenience in passenger transport operations within the area.
During the session, the ARTO Sopore highlighted the department’s commitment to improving transport management through:
1. Strict Regulation of Routes and Fares:
Operators were advised to adhere to designated routes and notified fare structures to prevent overcharging and route violations.
2. Passenger Safety and Vehicle Standards:
The ARTO emphasized that no vehicle without valid documents, fitness, and insurance would be allowed to operate. Drivers were urged to follow traffic norms and maintain passenger discipline.
3. Coordination Between Unions and Authorities:
The meeting resolved to strengthen coordination between the Transport Department, SUMO unions, and the Traders Association to ensure smooth operations, especially during rush hours and festive seasons.
4. Public Grievance Redressal:
It was decided that passenger complaints and transport-related grievances will be promptly addressed through a joint coordination cell to maintain transparency and efficiency.
5. Costituted a committee of SUMO unions to settle the metual issues/ disputes emicably, to be headed by President SUMO union Tangmerg.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. S. N. D. Andrabi appreciated the initiative of the ARTO Sopore and assured full cooperation from the traders and local transporters for maintaining an organized and commuter-friendly transport system in Kreeri and adjoining areas.
The ARTO Sopore reiterated that the department’s ongoing engagements with transport unions across the subdivision aim to ensure safe, reliable, and well-regulated transport services for the general public.
